The sound of the cold foamy waves beating against the pier washed away the noise in Millie's mind. Things were beginning to pile up on her consciousness, and she needed a break from it. Demons? Angels? She could think about it later but now was not the time. Millie's reel whined as she casted her line. The last time she had gone fishing was in Maufi, and before that with her father. Running away again are you? Running, was that always her solution? She ran away from Rettati after killing Caspin. She ran away from Niciri to not hurt friend. Would she run from The Pack as well? The sun was beginning to set as the bobber continued to ride the waves up and down. Some of the dragons around her would look over, clearly not used to Beorc in their town, but most wouldn’t approach her. I hope Elina is doing alright. I did kind of leave her without a word... Millie felt guilty that it wasn’t until now that she had thought of her old roommate. Although she said in her interview she applied because she had wanted a change of pace, in reality she just wanted to escape when things between her and Elina got heated. Maybe I should write her a letter... No that would just make it worse... The sound of the bobber sinking beneath the sea snapped Millie out of her mind, and she quickly took control of the rod.

Nearby, Gracie had been looking out to the water, reflecting on her own past. Though the Dragon's Domain was one of the last places she had journeyed to--and had not spent a long time there--she often had thoughts about what the dragons would possess--if her journey would dangle in front of her, tantalizing, but be whisked away from her, attainable only through an eternity of toil. Her thoughts drifted back to her farm, back to her father--certainly, he would have missed her now--thought her to be dead, maybe. The thought caused a stirring in her heart, made her think about the farm. Certainly, without them, her father would need some more hands to tend to it... As she drifted by the pier in her thoughts, her head jerked to notice Millie, quietly fishing at the edge. Slowly, she made her way towards the other, careful not to intrude just in case she startled her and made her lose the fish.

After a minute of maneuvering her rod Millie managed to reel it in, discovering 2 mackerel at the end of her pole. She smiled, and deposited them into a water filled bucket before casting again. Millie then grabbed a bit of shrimp from a bag and skewered them on the hooks before recasting. After a second she looked around, noticing Gracie in the background. "Hi Gracie." She waved calmly and patted the spot next to her. "What brings you too the pier?"

AOMRocks20:

Gracie gives her a small smile, slipping forward and joining her, sitting at the spot Millie had gestured to. "Hello, Millie. It's good to see you again." She looks out into the water that Millie had casted in, taking a moment before responding. "Oh, not much in particular. I had been...thinking. About my family--you know, the farm?"

! A wild cyber appeared!:

“Yea, the one with the sea slugs.” Millie grinned as she imagined Gracie trying to herd a flock of sea slugs underwater.

AOMRocks20:

Gracie responded with a small smile, glancing at the other and giggling a bit. "Eheh... y-yes, the one with the sea slugs. I had been thinking about the state of it after I had left it... My father is the only one of my family who remains there."

! A wild cyber appeared!:

"What about your mother? Does she help your father on the farm?" Millie tilted her head as she asked.

AOMRocks20:

Gracie gives a small shake of her head, gaze turning towards the fishing pole. "My mother had... passed away a long time ago. When I was at a young age."

! A wild cyber appeared!:

"I-I'm sorry that was insensitive." Millie turned her head away in shame. She should have guessed it, felt obvious to her. She twisted a lock of hair around her finger in embarrassment.

AOMRocks20:

"You need not apologize, Millie, I had never told you about... about her." Gracie takes a deep breath before continuing. "But, when she was alive... before illness took her, at least... she had no skill at farming. She was very learned, however, so she endeavored to teach me much when I was a child."

Millie stared at the moonlit reflection in the sea, trying to remember the faces of her parents after 2 years. “Both my parents were lawyers, and they always wanted me to study to become a doctor or lawyer as well. But they were always busy with work so they sent me and my brother to a private school. Millie blushed as she remembered her school uniform. She always felt that the skirt was too short...

AOMRocks20:

"...I see. I am sure, then, that you have learned much more than I. When I was not working in ways that I could, my mother taught me what she could: how to read, to write, to speak, even to dance. Certainly, the school you attended offered more..." Gracie notes the other's complexion, and raises an eyebrow. "...is there something... noteworthy you recall about the school?" The Ayzer, thinking of her mother, her teacher, of what she left her--the dress, that still remained with the rest of her personal belongings, and the ring, restored as if by a miracle, the shining pink band with the pearl set in the middle. She glances down to the ring, turning her hand to observe it. Is this what she... would have wanted to leave me?

“There were a lot of kids in my school. About 100 total and 15 in my class. Lessons were faced paced and homework load per day was heavy." As she talked about school Millie began to realize how much she missed it, despite how much she hated it at the time. "I had a group of friends that I did homework with, but they mostly talked about clothes so I found it a bit hard to fit in." Millie laughed a bit nervously as she remembered her snobby study group. She always looked down on them for acting so materialistic and shallow, but some of it may have rubbed off on her anyways.

AOMRocks20:

Gracie gives a slow nod, seeming to become more involved in the conversation about her school than wondering about her family. "And that... made you embarrassed? When you said you were sent to a private school, your face went a bit pink..."

! A wild cyber appeared!:

"Ah-Nothing!" Millie quickly swatted away the image of herself in the school uniform trying to get Caspin's attention.

AOMRocks20:

Gracie raises an eyebrow again, then chuckles lightly, smiling at Millie. "Ahahah... perhaps you are not so coy as you are on the battlefield, are you, Millie?"

! A wild cyber appeared!:

Battlefield... Millie squirmed as she tried to push away the memory of her kneeling in a pool of blood and dust from the last fight. "Fighting is easy. Words or feelings don't matter." Millie set the rod onto a nearby stand and flipped her hand over and examined it. Sometimes if she lost focus Millie could still feel the congealed blood dripping from her hands.

AOMRocks20:

Gracie's brow furrows now; realizing she had struck some sort of nerve, she continues cautiously. "Ah, have I... done something to offend?"

“Oh no it’s just....” Millie’s face blanked as she tried organize her thoughts. “It’s not...uh...” Millie began chewing on that lock of hair she had been playing with earlier. “Battlefield Millie and Normal Millie are different.”

AOMRocks20:

"Ah, I... I see..." Gracie fumbles a bit as she tries to be cautious, making a note to keep Millie normal while talking. "Is there anything that makes... Battlefield Millie come out?"

! A wild cyber appeared!:

"Ah-Don't worry about it" Millie began to grow flustered as she tried to change the subject. "W-what about you? How are you different when you fight?" Millie stumbled as she realized how weird of a question that was. Hopefully Gracie didn't mind.

AOMRocks20:

"Well, I..." Gracie considers her question for a few moments, then replies with a raised eyebrow. "Well, I suppose. But you mean in the way that you are, don't you?"

! A wild cyber appeared!:

“I-uh” Millie grasped for words like a fish gasping for water. I shouldn’t have said that She stewed for a moment and stared into the dark blue waves. They lapped at the brine crusted pier legs lazily. “Do you think I’m weird?”

AOMRocks20:

...ah, how to put this... Gracie gives a small scoff, then slowly shakes her head. "I find that it is...strange, that you move from casual to battle attitudes, but I do not think you yourself are 'weird', Millie. I think that might even be a favorable quality to have in a fight."

"I don't like that part of me" Millie's voice hardened, the wavering uncertainty wiped from her throat. She flicked her fishing pole, casting her line much farther than before. "I need it because I can't afford to be afraid of killing anyone trying to kill me. I have to prioritize myself and my team over my enemies." She paused, taking a shallow breath. "But it also scares me. Sometimes, that part forgets what it means to be human, to feel empathy. That part could kill a hundred enemy soldiers and look around for the next." She turned her head away from Gracie. "When I came out of the air ducts, I was covered in blood. My hair, my stomach, my hands, it was everywhere. But I couldn't tell whether it was mine, my enemies' or my allies'." Her pole jerked, indicating that she had caught a fish, but she did not move to reel it in. "I'm scared. I'm scared that someday I'm going to lose sight of what matters and find myself alone among a pile of bodies." I'm scared that someday all the sins of my past will come back to haunt me.

AOMRocks20:

Gracie opens her mouth, then looks down at the water. She's hesitant as to what to say, how she could respond to something like that. She thinks, then responds. "...I do not... think you are wrong in being afraid of that. It is something that is scary. ...have you tried finding ways to keep sight of your allies, to control yourself a bit in this mood?"

! A wild cyber appeared!:

Millie nodded. “It’s not like I just forget my real self, I still have my rationality.” Millie cracked a small smile and turned her head to Gracie. “Don’t worry about it too much, it’s not like I’m going to suddenly turn and fight you.” Millie noticed the rod being pulled and quickly took control of it, reeling it in with some surprising skill. No, I’d kill myself before I hurt anyone innocent.

AOMRocks20:

"I... ah, I see," Gracie nods. "I suppose y--oh, you've caught something!" The Ayzer woman leans forward with anticipation, staring deep into the water as Millie begins to reel it in.

! A wild cyber appeared!:

As the fish on the end of the line grew closer Millie realized that the hook would not be enough to pull it up alone. "Watch your head." Millie locked the reel with her left and grabbed a large wooden pole with a hook at the end hanging it off from the side of the dock. Once the fish had been pulled to the surface she reached down and hooked the fish right in the gill, bringing it back onto the dock. "Woo Hoo! We got a big one!"

! A wild cyber appeared!:

The large, lopsided looking fish flopped on the deck angrily, it's mottled brown skin blending into the brown dock. "I bet this would taste really good with some lemon and bay leaves."

AOMRocks20:

Gracie shifts to avoid the creature, exclaiming at the size of the massive fish, giving a small giggle as she discusses cooking it. "Ahaha... you're a bit quick to start thinking about seasoning the fish. There is much more work to be done before...!"

! A wild cyber appeared!:

"Yup! Would you like to join me for dinner tonight?" Millie takes out a large bag and begins wrapping the fish up.

AOMRocks20:

The proposal strikes Gracie off-guard for a moment. She hesitates a bit before giving a nod. "I think I will, yes. Perhaps I could help you in preparing that fish, as well?"

! A wild cyber appeared!:

"Sure!" Millie stifled a grunt as she hefted the giant fish over her shoulder, excited for the dinner that was coming. "You should teach me how to cook Ayzer cusine sometime."

AOMRocks20:

"Perhaps I could discuss some preparation techniques as we work..." Gracie replied as the two made their way out of the pier.
