Millie grinded the whetstone against her blade, chewing a lock of hair in concentration. Since this was her new blade she was using one of her nicer stones, and it looked like it was paying off.
Although in the morning it had been quite chilly, now the noonday sun blasted it's heat against Millie's back. The grey tank top she was wearing was now drenched in sweat, and the jacket she wore in the morning wrapped around her shorts. She had also found a grey skull patterned handkerchief in the convoy, and that was holding her silver ponytail in place instead of the usual red or black one.
After about 30 minutes of grinding Millie examined her handiwork, letting the blazing sun reflect off the blade's sheen. She decided that it needed a bit more work, and wen't back to grinding.
Kinu:
"My, that's quite a blade you've got there." Gully poked her head into the new lady's zone (but goodness, she'd been meeting a lot of girls here, hm? perhaps Chiefsie was a bit of a philanderer... not that she minded, girls were nice,) staring at her intense grinding action. The skull handkerchief around her ponytail made it clear that this young lady here was Nobody To Fuck Wit', and that was always good to have around.
Approximately three minutes ago, Bosko had decided he was tired and wanted a nap, so Gully sighed and left the kitty to it. She then did what she did best, and wandered off in a random direction, with no idea what she'd find- though, of course, staying within the area, as she was not so flighty as to ignore her new employment. Her keen ears (a trait she was quite proud of, to be frank,) detected the sound of grinding metal, and grinding metal meant people about, and, well, here we are.
In any case, Gully cocked her head to the side, her ponytail trailing down past her head, and smiled. "What's its name? Does it have one?

Millie was so focused on working her blade that she didn't notice the visitor approach, so when she interjected about her blade she jumped, holding the blade to her guard.
"Who are you?"
She didn't recognize the person in front of her. She was clearly Jera, but as far as she knew the only Jera left on their team was Nyrandisa and she did not look like Nyarndisa.

Kinu:
"Oh, silly me, silly me." Gully asked. "Hello, miss, my name's Gully. I just enlisted!" She had a particularly sparkly look in her eyes. "I've simply been doing a bit of bouncing around while my kitty takes a nap and seeing the sights of this charming little camp. Naturally I don't mean you any harm, I simply liked the sound of your grinding metal!" Giggling, Gully put her hand up to her mouth and laid it under her chin. "Why do you suppose there's an 'h' in the word whetstone, anyhow?"
cyber:
"Oh...Uh nice to meet you."
Millie extended her arm to shake, but detracted it when Gully continued rambling on like a boulder tumbling down the hill. She had so many questions, but with each time Gully opened her mouth a new questioned replaced the old one, overwhelming her brain.
Kinu:
"Don't be shy, darling, I love handshakes." Gully stuck hers back out.
cyber:
"Millie..."
She hesitantly took the shake, still unsure what to make of the new girl.
"So uh, did you come here with Evelyn?"
Kinu:
"Ah, yes, I did!" Gully said. "We took a nap together on the boat, and ever so pleasant to sun out my wings for a few hours. Sometimes Bosko- oh, that's my kitty, by the way- doesn't give me the opportunity on account of being a grumpy-bum, which also isn't to mention the fact that I myself have the sleep schedule of an inverse cat." She was, of course, now still thinking about the difference in the word 'whetstone' and 'wet.' Certainly, 'whet' was a word, but weren't whetstones wet? They should be wetstones, then. Did the verb 'whet' come from 'whetstone'? Didn't it mean to stimulate an appetite or something like that? Why would it-?
Gully blinked. "It's lovely to meet you, Millie."
cyber:
She's like the complete opposite of Evelyn...
Millie continued to stare dumbfounded, trying to let her brain catch up with her ears. She thought she was energetic but Gully was just a different breed of hyper. In her mind she tried to picture Gully and Nyrandisa next to each other, which only resulted in more confusion.
"It's nice to meet you too..."
Kinu:
Hm. All that trailing off didn't seem quite normal. Perhaps she was doing something wrong this time. "Am I perhaps trailing off too fast for you?" Gully tilted her head to the other side. "I can try to slow down for you if that would make you more comfortable, dear. I am a bit of a chatterbox, I know, and you know, I have been popped in the kisser for it before! How unfortunate that was! My poor jaw didn't feel right for days!" Wait. Pause. Rewind. "Oh, dear, there I go again. How about you talk for a moment? Tell me about yourself! I do oh so love hearing about new friends."
cyber:
"No no it's fine, I was just thinking."
Millie laughed nervously and rubbed the back of her head, causing the bunny ears shaped hair tie to jump up and down.
She turned her wrist to view the other side of the blade, satisfied with the sharpening.
"This one's called The Marks on the Wall. I use it for more precision combat rather than brute force, which helps if I'm dealing with someone that's really defensive. It has better etchings on the surface too so I can distribute my energy where needed."
Kinu:
"Oh, lovely. I like the name." Gully beamed. "I'm more of a lancie myself, though I won't say no to an axe, so I'll do my best to avoid the writing on the wall if I pull one out." She laughed at her own joke, because that was sort of just a thing Gully did sometimes. "Though I doubt I'll ever need to avoid it myself. If you've been with... The Pack, oh dear I love that name, this long, I doubt you're much in the way of friendly fire, hm?"
cyber:
Millie tilted her head, causing her bunny ears tilt with her. She had plenty of experience with forging spears, but never actually using them.
"Huh, so you're a halberdier like Gracie."
Kinu:
"Oh, no, I'm a Wyvern Lady. 'Lord' never sounded quite right, so I'm a Lady, hm?" Gully tittered. "Flying about on the battlefield makes it much easier to spread-" Wait, here we went. "Faith!" "Trust!" "And a little bit of pixie dust!" On instinct, she reached forward and tapped Millie on the nose, since usually she did that to Bosko and he was, after all, a kitty, so booping was part of the territory. "Shame I can't fly normally, really. My wings are quite lovely, yes, but not as functional as I'd like them."
cyber:
"Achoo!"
Millie sneezed when Gully bopped her on the nose. shaking her head afterwards. She puffed her cheeks poutily. Although Gully probably didn't actually drop any pixie dust, the thought of it still tickled her nose.
But when Gully mentioned her wings she reminded Millie of Nyrandisa. She wanted to ask if they were sensitive, but that was probably a rude question.
Kinu:
"Oh, my apologies." Gully giggled. "I suppose perhaps it can be a bit rough on the nose for a first timer... hehe!" Millie had a cute sneezing noise, and the puffing of her cheeks was so unexpectedly cute that Gully couldn't help but giggle. What a wide range of folk she'd run into since coming! "Sorry-dorry, Millie, it's just I tend to boop Bosko's nose when I do my little chant. Would you like a hankie? I've quite a few in my pack here, if you would."
cyber:
"No it's fine, I've got my own if I need them."
Millie rubbed her nose, still a bit overwhelmed by her excitement. Maybe it was the sugar. Jera ate a lot of sugar, maybe Gully just ate too much even for a Jera.
"Is Bosko your cat?"

Kinu:
"And a particularly grumpy kitty he is, at that." Gully said. "Why, the looks that boy gives me some days when I'm simply stopping to have a sconch of conversation! Oh, but he's a good head on his shoulders, he does. As far as practical matters, he's smarter than I am, hehe. But enough about me!" Gully's hands flew to her chest, bent out excitedly like some kind of raptor on the prowl. "Do tell me about yourself, Millie, dear. I'm dying to hear!"
cyber:
"Oh, well there's nothing that interesting."
Millie scratched her head awkwardly, her eyes shifting to the right.
"I'm from Niciri, I worked as a blacksmith's apprentice for the most part. Sometimes I'd help my younger roommates with schoolwork."
Her life in Niciri was a lot more boring compared to Rettati unfortunately.
Kinu:
"My! Roommates?" Gully's eyes sparkled. "I've never had those before. Do tell me what that's like? Well, I've had Bosko but kitties are kitties and roomies are roomies, yes? When you sleep outside as often as I do you don't often find yourself availed of the chance, you see."
cyber:
"They're alright I guess."
Millie rubbed the back of her head again and looked away, hiding a slight blush.
"It's nice to have some company sometimes, and I guess I liked it when others enjoyed my cooking."

Kinu:
"Oh, and whatever do you make? Anything in particular?" Gully cocked her head to the side. "I've been trying to better myself a sconch whenever I find myself in range of a stove or other similar appliance."
cyber:
"It depends on what they want, and what's on sale at the market, or what Elina gets me."
Millie put propped her chin on her elbow and knees, staring longingly into the sky.
"Pasta is usually pretty easy, but I can also cook most fish and pan seared meat. I wish I was better at baking but if I have a recipe handy I can handle it."
She sighed, and looked down at the ground, an indecisive look passing her face as she muttered.
"Elina really liked it when I cooked lamb."
Kinu:
The air in the room (and in Gully's head) changed a bit, and she frowned sympathetically, putting her hand on Millie's shoulder. "Got someone waiting at home, eh?" She said, tilting her head, her ponytail drooping slightly. "I imagine that's sad, not being able to go back and all. Never had the chance, myself. I'd offer to fly you a message back, but somehow I don't think Chiefsie would think it were much of a good idea to leave so soon." She chuckled. "Still, though, all the more reason to fight your hardest! I'll support you all the way, dear!"
cyber:
Millie shook her head.
"It's not like that, I left by my own decision. I'm sure all of them will be fine without me."
Her lips bent upwards in attempt an to smile, but quickly realized that it wasn't working and dropped it.
It's for her own good anyways.
Kinu:
"Oh, I'm sure, I'm sure, but that doesn't mean they wouldn't like seeing your face again once it's all over." Then Gully paused, and tapped her chin. "Unless you're on the rocks for some reason..." She spun around and raised her finger to the ceiling. "Oh, but that's your business, not mine, of course. Wanderer Gullveig might be a Quizzical Quinlan, but she is not a Nosy Nellie when she needs not to be!"
She sighed. "I'm sorry. I didn't mean to dredge up old dirt... Are you alright, dear?"
cyber:
"Oh no no I'm fine really."
Millie shook her hands in denial.
"So what about you? What's been your favorite place in your travels?
Kinu:
"Ooh, how can I possibly pick just one?" Gully lit up quick as a wink. "Ahh, but I do so enjoy the occasional dip in the springs of the Isle of White, and Pteryga Peaks are ever so scenic, awash with white at the tops, though admittedly rather cold. Cynthaea is sublime to wander through, even if it is a bit tough for Bosko. Ooh! The forests of Omada are quite a fun experience- I do enjoy the occasional bout of seeing just how far up I can climb the trees there, which are astonishingly high. I'll always remember, and this was quite a time ago, but I'll always remember a particular waterfall I found in Niciri once. It was late at night and I'd just been pecked quite a few times by a group of chamrosh who weren't particularly friendly, you see, and I was ever so tired and looking for a place to spend the night- the nearest settlement was quite a distance away by that point, hm? I slump to my knees and suddenly I feel a keen sense of moisture in the air, and I find a waterfall and its basin, shining like a sparkling field of jades in my vision from the moonlight. Thankfully, I'd learned to fish, so I got to spend some quality time by myself fishing and coming up with little songs to sing while I fished. Riveting stuff! One of these days I really should learn to read and write music so that I might write down a bit of all those little incidental melodies that just pop out of my head while I'm gallivanting about, hm? Gallivanting. Gullyvanting. Haha! Look at me and my portmanteau skills. Truly I am amazing. That one'll make Bosko so mad. So, anyhow—"
cyber:
Millie tilted her head and tried to process all the locations in her head, some of which she didn't even recognize. She was pretty sure she had been to the waterfall Gully had mentioned but the memory felt a bit vague. But what was familiar to her was music.
"I can read some sheet music, but I'm a bit rusty. Different instruments have different sheets though."

Kinu:
"They do?" Gully blinked a few times. "Well, my goodness, that would be step one, wouldn't it? You see, this is why I need to learn these things, so as not to embarrass myself so. In any case-"
Gully probably would've kept talking if it hadn't suddenly come to the forefront of her mind that Millie had been sharpening her blade. "Er." She stammered, and awkwardly pointed to the whetstone with one finger and the Marks on the Wall with the other. "Would it behoove you for me to leave you alone now? I've probably interrupted you for far too long now." That was an awkward chuckle.
cyber:
“Oh not it’s fine, it was a good chat.”
Millie noticed the awkward laugh and smiled reassuringly.
“I look forward to working with you.”
Kinu:
"You as well, friend. You as well." Gully nodded and earnestly smiled back.
As she stepped out of the room, she muttered to himself, "Bosko had better not have bamboozled me. I swear, if that boy turns out to have given me the runaround under the guise of napping, why, we will have words and a very serious bout of glaring at each other."
