[1:11 AM] everyone: Millie whistled as she strolled down Wizard's Point's market street. However, only the girl herself could hear it, since the pitter patter of the rain drowned her out.
I should buy a better raincoat.
Despite the leather cloak she had pulled over her head Millie's silver hair was soaked. In fact, her whole body was soaked. She sneezed, and rubbed her nose with a handkerchief. She hoped she wouldn't catch a cold.
But despite the deluge business was booming like normal. Butchers called out their wares, a pair of monks haggled over a gilded book and the baker was loading a large basket of bread onto a cart.
"Hey miss! Looks like you need something to repel the rain."
Millie turned to address the cat Laguz merchant that called out to her. He looked to be about 40, with an eye missing and a tattoo of a spider on his left arm. His left ear had a chunk missing, but his grizzled face smiled as he showed Millie his latest wares.
"Whaddya think. This is top notch dungeon spider silk, best material out there. Stronger then steel and lighter than air I tell ya. But that's not all. It's got triple layer enchanting to protect you from almost any magical attack. This beauty might even last longer than you!"
He laughed and let Millie hold the jacket. The material was translucent silver, almost like if water itself was weaved into a fabric. Millie could definitely tell this was some high quality material. Even in the rain the jacket felt dry. Water droplets simply bounced off the surface instead of getting absorbed, possibly due to the enchantments.
"Umm, how much is it?"(edited)
[1:19 AM] everyone: Millie had about 300 leafs, but she had to save at least half of it for equipment and food. Plus, if she just blew her savings in one day it may come back to bite her later.
"Tell ya what. You seem like a good lass so I'll give you a discount. 350 leafs and it's all yours."
Erk
Millie drooped upon hearing the price. There was no way she could reasonably afford that. She looked around at his cart to see if there was a cheaper option.
"What about that one?"
She pointed at another jacket on the side of the cart. Unlike the one she held it the fabric was darker and didn't have as much sheen. The merchant scratched his head and held it up.
"This one's not as tough. The spider that we milked for this one was old, and it could only handle about 2 layers or so. Will probably get the job done but the one you have right now is much better."
Millie looked between the 2. The one she held felt so much nicer. The cuff links were gold instead of silver, and the thread felt much silkier. Even the zipper ran more smoothly on the better one. But she could tell both of them were crafted with equal quality, and both repelled the rain.
"That one will go for 250, but for you I'll go 200."
Millie did her best not to pout. Even if she could afford it she knew she didn't need it. It only rained so much in Laqueos, and her cloak already did perfectly fine in battle. Millie wished her mom was here. She would have happily bought it for her.(edited)
[7:55 AM] Turtleye: Daniël sighed. He didn't like rain all that much and he would prefer staying inside on days like these. However, he had also promised Florian he'd go to the market street today to get him a treat for his hard work. He rounded another corner and found himself on Wizard Point's market street.
"Let's see," he muttered to himself. "What shall I get him this time. I suppose something to munch on wouldn't hurt. Although, my brush is also getting worn out so maybe a new one would be nice for him too."
He spent a few more moments contemplating what to get when he noticed Millie standing at one of the stalls. Buying a raincoat when it's raining, instead of when it's sunny. Someone hasn't thought this through all that much, he thought to himself.
"Hey Millie! Looking for something against the rain, I see?"
[3:07 PM] everyone: "Maybe some other time."
Millie returned the jacket with a sigh and walked away. If she spent all her Leafs everytime she saw something cool she'd be broke in seconds.
Her head whipped around when she heard her name over the rain. The source of this voice happened to be Daniël, and she unenthusiastically waved her hand. She liked the rain, but only when she wasn't outside and soaked.
"Not really, just browsing for stuff."
She sighed ruffled her cloak like a dog, only for it to get drenched again. Millie puffed her cheeks in frustration as she pulled the cloak over her head.
"What about you? What are you shopping for in this weather?"
[3:31 PM] Turtleye: "Well I told Florian yesterday I would get him something from the market today for his work he's put in recently." Daniël looked up at the gloomy sky. "However, I wasn't expecting it to rain today. But hey, a promise is a promise, so here I am."
He looked back at Millie. "I haven't quite figured out what I should get, though. So I was planning on browsing the shops to see if anything caught my eye".
[3:46 PM] everyone: Millie thought for a moment on what a pegasus would want as a present. Maybe they were like horses, so wouldn't they like horse stuff?
"What about apples? Or maybe carrots? What do pegasi eat anyways?"
She shivered as a giant drop of water splashed onto her cost from the awning above her. Maybe she should have bought that coat.
[4:18 PM] Turtleye: "Well they basically eat the same things as horses do. Just in larger quantities because flying takes more energy than running. But I wasn't only considering food. Since my current brush is getting worn out I was going to look for a new one too. Or some coloured fabric. As silly as it might seem, he loves that as well." Daniël chuckled. "I've known him for a long while now but he's not changed at all."
[5:52 PM] everyone: "Hmm."
Millie thought about what a horse would like other than snacks. She wasn't a big horse person.
"What about some kind of accessory? Maybe he'd like a hairclip or something like that."
Millie giggled at her idea. She imagined Florian with a flower tucked into his chestnut main riding into battle. If he liked colored fabric maybe he'd like an ornament of some kind.
[1:28 PM] Turtleye: "You know, that might be a good idea. I'll keep an eye out for those." Daniël smiled as he imagined Florian wearing a tophat.
"Have you been to Aleros before?" Daniël switched topic after a brief pause. "I noticed that you used a spellsword during our previous battles, and Alaros is quite known for it's magic." He asked, as he pulled his hood a bit more over his head. It was starting to rain a bit more.(edited)
[2:16 PM] everyone: Millie shivered again as the rain began to pour harder, and sneezed again.
"Maybe we should find a place to hide from the rain."
Her head slowly swiveled around as she searched for shelter. Some of the shops were also closing down, now that customers were becoming scarcer and scarcer. Millie was about to enter a nearby tavern, but stopped as the bouncer threw out an unshaven and angry man into the rain. She decided to keep searching after that.
"I wish I could have come here before, but I'm glad I got the chance now. Alaros has a lot of interesting things, but compared to spell blade forging some of it is too advanced for me."
Millie had actually borrowed a few.books om magic casting, but she could never really get it down herself. Everytime she tried to extend her power beyond her arms it would just fizzle and disappear.
"But some of the runes are pretty helpful. The new sword I forged is one of the best I've ever made."
She spotted a nicer looking inn and ducked inside, making sure to pull Daniël with him. Once inside she hurried directly to the fireplace and planted herself right in front of it.
"Niciri is nice enough, but sometimes it feels soooooo boring there. It doesn't have anything special like Psari or Alaros really. But I didn't have the money to travel before I joined you guys so I was stuck there for the most part."
[3:34 PM] Turtleye: "That sounds like a great idea." Daniël responded. Although not seemingly as much as Millie, he was definitely starting to get soaked by the rain as well.
"I see. I've never really had any contact with magic whatsoever during my childhood. Once I started travelling around a lot, I learned more about it. I had only heard about it in stories, as I was just another child born to two farmers.."
After a few minutes, Millie pointed at an inn that didn't look like a lot of trouble and she hurried inside, more or less dragging Daniël along. It ended up being a good choice, as inside there was a fireplace emitting a very welcome warmth throughout the room.
Before Daniël could say anything, Millie had already taken a spot in front of the fireplace. He took place next to her. Hearing Millie's comment on Niciri, he raised an eyebrow. "Boring? Really?" He stared at the fire for a moment.
"Well, I suppose peaceful can be boring at times. Although, before I moved to the city, there was always something to do on my parents' farm. If I was free, I'd go play with the other kids in the village."
[4:43 PM] everyone: "Huh..."
Millie realized her idea of fun was a lot different compared to Daniël's idea of "fun." But she didn't say so out loud, everyone was allowed to have their own idea of fun.
But the longer she spent in front of the fireplace the more comfortable she got. As her cloak began to dry she felt like she melting in a nice warm soup. She tucked her chin into her cloak and began to daydream. If only her cloak was fur lined, maybe something like mink. A big, fluffy cloak.
"Guru guru"
Millie's focus began to fade as the warmth of the fire enveloped her. She almost forgot about Daniël until a barmaid came over to ask if they wanted to order anything. Millie did feel hungry so she asked for a soup.
[7:07 PM] Turtleye: Maybe my view on Niciri is a bit skewed since I live in the capital. Never a dull moment there, Daniël thought. But if peace means that it's boring, I wouldn't have it any other way. He stared at the fire once again. Hah, here I go, talking peace again. Yet here I am , fighting battle after battle in order to maintain this peace and fight out who's behind all of this chaos.
Daniël's thoughts continued to drift away untill a barmaid went over to him and Millie. He ordered a hot coco.
He noticed that Millie was dozing off. "Hey now, you're not getting sick, are you?" he asked after tapping on her shoulder.
[7:37 PM] everyone: "Hmm, no- A-ACHOO! maybe."
Millie rubbed her nose with her cloak and shivered again. Being sick would be annoying. All cooped up in the tent, sniffling over and over.
"I hope I'm nuh-no-not ACHOO!"
Millie pouted as she came to the realization that she was probably the sick. Luckily, the soup and and cocoa arrived by then.
"I hate being sick."
Millie grumpily sipped her soup as she sat next to Daniël.
When the rain clears up I'm going to buy myself a fluffy waterproof cloak or coat.
[1:34 PM] Turtleye: "You're not the only one on that regard." Daniël took a sip from his coco. Although the coco was still very hot, the warmth was definitely welcome. He tasted a little bit of pepper in it as well.
"How's the soup?"
[2:59 PM] everyone: "Ish good."
Millie sniffled as she downed her soup. Even with the heat of the fire her cloak was still dripping wet.
"ACHOO"
Millie took of her bow and wiper her nose with it. Now that her hair was freed it spilled out over her shoulders, catching the firelight like morning dew. Her cloak began to feel heavier and heavier, so she removed it and hung it right next to the fire ao that it would dry faster. Unfortunately she had also choosen to wear a thin white shirt underneath, and it had gotten translucent from the rain. She blushed and quickly covered her chest with one arm.
"Don't look..."
She hoped her cloak would dry quickly.
[4:17 PM] Turtleye: "The coco's good too".
Daniël absently stirred his coco with a spoon, reconsidering what he'd get for Florian. He snapped back to reality when Millie sneezed. She'd taken off her bow and her coat, the latter still being fairly soaked.
To his surprise, she was only wearing a white shirt beneath her coat. No wonder she'd caught a cold, being dressed like that He thought. But her coat was also pretty soaked. Just how long has she been outside? Is she like, trying to get a cold?
"Don't look", she said. Daniël realized he'd been sort of staring at her while thinking.
"O, crap. I uh..." Daniël uttered. He'd only now realized that her white shirt had turned somewhat translucent from all the rain.
"Here, you can have my coat. It's still not completely dry but it should be better than yours." He responded, handing over his coat to Millie while looking away.
[4:32 PM] everyone: Millie blushed as she wrapped the cloak around herself.
"T-thank you."
The cost was much better than her cloak, but knowing it was Daniël's was extremely embarrassing for her.
I should have known it would rain today. I should have packed better rain gear.
She felt herself begin to slowly warm up and her nose briefly. Although she mostly smelled like raim water and oozone, Daniël's jacket smelled a bit different. This only made Millie blush even harder. She sunke her head under the collar in hopes that it would hide her blush, but it just made the smell stronger. Millie hoped her cloak would dry faster so she could go out and buy a better one. Maybe one with a fluffy collar.
[5:06 PM] Turtleye: Daniël took another sip of his coco. He watched Millie basically bury herself in his cloak. She must still be feeling pretty cold, despite the fireplace.
He thought back to when he was a kid and his dad would give his big, warm jacket to Daniël on a cold winter's night. It was large enough that Daniël could wrap himself in it entirely.
He started humming the tune of the song his father would sing to him.
[9:07 PM] everyone: Millie scooted closer to Daniël so that she didn't have to talk as loud.
"What did you do before you joined Zain?"
She wasn't sure what kind of job a person like Daniël would be. He definitely wasn't a warrior, even if he did know how to ride a pegasus. Maybe some kind of craftsman? She wasn't sure at all. She shuffled a bit as her clothes began to finally dry.
[12:16 PM] Turtleye: "I'm a Nicirian diplomat. The reason why I have Florian is because I need to be able to travel to the contries in Laqueos without relying on transport too much."
Taking another sip, he continued. "So basically, I go to whichever country the higher-ups ask me to go whenever there's a political dispute going on, and I'll try to either convince them that what Niciri wants to do is reasonable for them and they should cooperate, or I'll try to find a compromise if the first option doesn't end up working out. You could say that I'm a wordfighter."
"My role as a diplomat is also why i'm here. I got asked by the government to keep an eye on what happens and help prevent another attack on the Arbor Aurelius."
"However," he added, "all the adventuring is also a nice change of pace from my usual travels. Although I've been to every country in Laqueos, I seldom get outside of the big cities."
[12:57 PM] everyone: Millie nodded in acknowledgement. It made sense, Daniël seemed like a diplomatic guy.
"So you've done a lot of travelling."
She shuffled closer to the fire and turned her back to the hearth so she could dry that side. Feeling the heat on the other side made her feel much better and she resisted the urge to purr. She sat there for a moment simply enjoying the heat before asking,
"When did you learn to use the sword?"
[1:11 PM] Turtleye: "I used to be in the Nicirian army before I started working as a diplomat. I quickly dropped out, though. I wasn't cut out for it."
Not my proudest period of my life. Daniël looked at the table. Suddenly, his coco didn't seem all that tasty anymore.
"Since then, I haven't really bothered with practicing swordfighting. It's more of a last resort for me, really."
[1:18 PM] everyone: That explains the lack of skill.
Millie surpressed another giggle as she recalled Daniël at the beach whacking the beachgoers with a pool noodle.
Reaching out a hand she checked to see if her cloak had dried. Outside the rain had finally died down and the afternoon sunlight filtered through the windows.
"Oh look the rain's gone."
Millie returned the jacket to Daniël and quickly wrapped the dried cloak around her again.
"I'm going to go buy a better raincoat. Maybe someone out there will have something nice for Florian."
[1:41 PM] Turtleye: Daniël looked outside. Indeed, the rain was gone. He hadn't noticed it, but the grey sky had made place for a sky filled with clouds being lit up in all sorts of red and orange shades.
"Are you sure that's a good idea," Daniël responded while putting his coat back on. "I thought you'd just said you were sick."
[2:04 PM] everyone: "Achoo!"
Millie rubbed her nose again.
"Yea but I still need a raincloak."
[2:21 PM] Turtleye: "Well you won't be needing one right now". He gestured at the window. "Might be better to wait untill you feel better." Daniël went to the barmaid and paid the tab.
"Either way, do what you see fit. I should go by some of the shops before they close. I still need to get something for Florian. Take care!" Daniël waved, turned around and left the inn.
[2:39 PM] everyone: "Byeby-ACHOO!"
Millie grumbled as she sniffled again.
"Ugh I hope we don't leave Alaros soon."(edited)
