[1:35 AM] Cyber | Likes Sippy Cups: Millie stared at her blade silently, occasionally pulsing a bit of her energy into it and jotting down a few notes. Whenever she pulsed, the etchings in the treated ironwood glowed, revealing the mana pathways that distributed the energy within the blade. She took out a tuning pick, and fiddled with a few etchings.
Has to be perfect...
She wore a tank top, tight fitting shorts and had a jacket tied around her waist. She had a towel loosely hanging on top of her head, her silvery white hair falling down her shoulders. Like every morning she had gotten up early to jog, but for the most of her morning she had spent fine tuning her blade.
Most cheap blades would simply have a basic gridwork or even just a single channel. Even distribution wasn't good for swords, since the most amount of pressure would be on the blade. The best ones incorporated inertia loops, allowing mana to preserve momentum as they traveled towards the tip of the blade. She pulsed one last time, before putting down her tuning pick in favor of a whetstone.
I wonder what it's like to write your own tome as a mage?
[1:45 AM] NethaEmerald: Nyrandisa floated gently on through the camp, the only sound coming from her being the fluttering of her wings. She was dressed in her common purple and green robes, the hood up which covered the top of her head and her antennae. If it ain't broke, don't fix it, after all. That was especially true here, since her robes were magical in various ways, such as to not mess up any of the extra parts she had on her from being a Jera, such as wings and antennae.
As she moved through camp to the convoy, something caught her eye. It was one of the newest people to The Pack, and they seemed to have a... tuning pick? That didn't make much sense. Why would someone using a sword need such a tool for their blade? She almost wanted to dismiss the entire thing, but she found herself attracted like a moth to a light. As she got closer, she still couldn't tell what the sword was meant to do. However, during her time to draw closer, the tuning pick changed to a whetstone.
"What do you need a tuning pick for a sword for?" She asked once close enough.
[1:57 AM] Cyber | Likes Sippy Cups: Millie paused her sharpening and looked up at the Jera. She hadn't formally met the Nyarndisa before, but she had known about her. She thought Nyarndisa was a dark mage, so Millie was a bit confused as to why she held a healing staff.
"The turning pick?"
She picked up the pick again, and examined the sharpened tip.
"I use it to maintain and adjust the etchings on my sword."
She proudly held up Yggdrasil's Fury, the grey ironwood etchings refracting the light majestically.
"Doing so improves the energy efficiency of the blade, along with reinforcing the durability under stress.."
She nodded at the staff and rubbed the towel in her hair a bit.
"New toy?"
[2:23 AM] NethaEmerald: As the blade was held up, she looked at it carefully. The etchings didn't seem to have much of a difference to enchanting something, be it with curses or wards. She couldn't quite make out what the etchings meant or did, however. All she could go off of was what Millie just told her.
"I see. Perhaps I could take a look at it sometime. Or any other blade you want to use. I happen to know how to infuse items with some magic, though not in the same way Boreas or those techings seem to do."
When asked about her staff, she rolled it in the hand a little.
"You could say that. I'm not sure how well it will work, but I feel my understanding is close enough to be able to test it out myself here really soon."(edited)
[2:40 AM] Cyber | Likes Sippy Cups: Millie considered Nyarndisa's offer for a second. She personally did not like it when others messed with her blades, except for Boreas. But perhaps she would take the Jera up on her off later. Hse quickly checked ther seord ine last time before sliding it into it's laquered sheath.
"I'm not that experienced with healing magic myself. Most of the time I just burst energy into a physical object."
She packed her tuning fork and some other equipment into a sack and tossed it into her tent.
"Have you done any healing before?"
[12:46 PM] NethaEmerald: The Jera shook her head. "I have not, actually. However, much like how someone like Relgia really wants to learn dark magic, I really want to learn how to use staves. I'm confident this staff will work, but I can't determine the exact effects yet. I do know it will heal people, however."
Nyrandisa explained, giving a little more insight onto the staff and her desire.
[7:15 PM] Cyber | Likes Sippy Cups: Millie shrugged. She could try to learn the axe or lance but she felt like there wasn't any point. Training to be a mage interested her, but she had no idea how long it would take. Probably more efficient to just her blade work rather than focus on something else.
[11:01 PM] NethaEmerald: She tilted her head. "You look confused. Do you need more explaination on the topic?"
She didn't want to confuse poor Millie like that.
"It's just like learning to swing an axe when you know how to swing a sword. The concepts from the sword are applied to the axe. In this example, the magic used in a staff is similar to some of my own enhancements. The channeling of the magic power stems from that and my own dark magic experience."
[1:30 AM] Cyber | Likes Sippy Cups: It's not that Millie was confused about how it worked, it was more that she didn't see the point. Why half master 2 techniques when mastering one would be more efficient. She could understand wanting to use healing and dark magic but an axe? A longsword would do anything an axe could do and more. But she didn't want to be rude and nodded along with Nyarndisa's spiel.
She flexed her arm again, and tried to channel her energy without the help of a physical conductor. It fizzled for a second, and then died. No control once it entered the vacuum of the atmosphere. Perhaps one day she would learn the path of the mage, but not in the near future.
"I think I'll stick to swords for now."(edited)
[1:57 AM] NethaEmerald: "You sure? Seems like Axes could be helpful to you. But what do I know; i'm just a dark mage right now." She said with a shrug.
After silence took back over, she began to wonder what it would feel like to hold a more... common weapon like a sword, lance, axe, or bow. Basically, more mundane in their common nature. Her curiosity caused her to look over Millie's blade one more time.
"I do have to wonder about something, though. I know magic weapons of things like sword and knives exist. I just am curious about how much of a punch I could make them pack, despite my lack of skill in their usage."
[2:22 AM] Cyber | Likes Sippy Cups: Millie cringed a bit on the inside when Nyarndisa recommended she use axes. As far as she was concerned axes were just top heavy swords, and infinitely inferior. Anything an axe could do she could do with a longsword. If anything it would be better to learn the lance or just forge a parrying dagger.
When the Jera mentioned using a magic weapon Millie shook her head.
"Even with magic flowing through the weapon without the physical strength or proper training it'll still be as ineffective as a normal weapon."
She pulled out another blade, this one much shorter, and pulsed a blast of magic through it as well.
"The only advantage I found in using a magic blade over a physical is that it allows me to chew through armored enemies more efficiently. But if you can't hit your target no amount of magic will do it for you."
She handed Nyarndisa the sword anyways.
[11:00 AM] NethaEmerald: Nyra gave a small glare to Millie when she said that the Jera would be completely ineffective.
"I never said anything about being able to use it as well as you. I just said I wonder if I could still course the magic through it to deal damage."
She took the sword in a small bit of anger. After inspecting it for a little, she realized that she was way in over her head. This sword worked unlike anything she had ever done with her magic before. The only logical step would be to use it as a channel, much like her dark magic. To her credit, she was able to, though it only fired harmless dark energy upon slashing with it. It couldn't even dent the tree she was aiming at. After looking at the blade some more, she responded with
"Well... maybe you do have a point. I don't think it's my physical strength getting in the way. After all, I know of others in the party that prefer these types of weapons and never touch a non-magic one. My problem might be with channeling. I seem to think of it as something like my tome, but that obviously forego any power it might have."
She handed the blade back to Millie.
"Well, that was what I was curious about, and seems like i'm not able to. At least, not without an amount of training I don't have time for, anyways."
[2:30 PM] Cyber | Likes Sippy Cups: Millie understood Nyarndisa's anger. She'd be angry too if someone told her she'd be innefective at something, but she felt that being realistic was better. She spun the blade in the air effortlessly before stuffing it back into it's sheath.
"If you mean using the sword to cast it's probably possible. You'd have to etch the spell into the blade, and it would probably have to be real small. A tome also has more pages, so you'd probably need at least 3 or 4."
She shrugged.
"If you want to try I could probably forge it. I'd have to know what to etch though."
[7:20 PM] NethaEmerald: "I'm not interested in bringing a sword into battle. I just wanted to see if I could channel magic through a weapon like yours. The results have determined that while I can in theory, it isn't refined enough to make them effective with me swinging them."
Nyrandisa explained a little back. "I know i'm no good with sword, so i'm not going to bother learning an art I don't need to. My magical power and dark tomes are more than enough to keep me safe, after all."(edited)
[8:13 PM] Cyber | Likes Sippy Cups: Millie stared at her arm again. She wished she had learned about her magic sooner. Her parents had never really cared for magic, preferring to focus on the tangibility of laws and engineering. Perhaps if she had learned about herself sooner she could have...
"I have one last question."
Her eyes faded as she stared into the abyss. She wanted to reach for something, something beyond the plane of reality. The rational part of her brain shut off and spiraled into the depths of her psychology.
"Can dark magic bring someone back from the dead?"(edited)
[9:41 PM] NethaEmerald: When Millie asked that question, a puzzled look came across Nyrandisa's face.
"To tell you the truth, I really don't know. Magic can do a lot of things, but there is many lifetimes of knowledge that I will never get to learn. From what I know, it's not possible, but that doesn't rule it out. Best you can do is look into it on your own time, because it's something I will never do."
The Jera responded with. The thought of it was never something that she never wanted to think about.
[12:41 AM] Cyber | Likes Sippy Cups: "I..."
Millie shook her head. What was she thinking, asking a question like that. Of course it was impossible.
"I see."
She hung her head down, and allowed the wet towel to cover her face. She knew this was coming, but it felt like an icy dagger stabbed into her shoulder. There had to be a way. It had to be possible somehow. Maybe not directly through death. Maybe...
She shook her head again. Her head felt like it was submerged in smoke. She needed to clear her mind, forget about everything.
"I need to go do something. Sorry."
She abruptly got up and moved to leave, bringing her sword with her. She was running away again. Running from the her problems, running from the past.
Coward
She chucked the towel on top of a nearby drying rack and covered her face with her arm. She wanted to hit herself, to drive her sword into herself like with...
The memory resurfaced and the sound of metal shattering pierced her ears. Fortunately that was all. She had managed to repress the thought before more of it could come. She hoped no one saw her. Her head felt like it was about to split. One side wanted to kill the past, the other side wanted to fix it.
[12:42 AM] Cyber | Likes Sippy Cups: You deserved this
[12:42 AM] Cyber | Likes Sippy Cups: This is all your fault Milaya
[12:45 AM] NethaEmerald: When Millie went off in a hurry, Nyrandisa almost called out to her, but by the time she could, Millie was too far away.
"It's clear she wants to talk to someone who died. Her reaction to it indicated so. That, or she is truly insane and wants an undead army."
She thought to herself as she continued on her way to the Convoy.
[12:45 AM] NethaEmerald: ==RP END==
