[8:05 PM] NethaEmerald: Nyrandisa, while the party was still in Maufi, had decided to actually take some time to relax and hopefully enjoy herself. As a result, she had gone down to the beach of all places, fluttering softly above the sand by an inch or so. That was one thing she liked about her wings; she didn't need to worry about getting sand in her shoes or feet when she takes a step. She did have some shoes on, though. She didn't have much that she wanted to do while near the wayer, however. She was just hoping to lay next to some relaxing waves and calm down. However, she had a feeling that she wasn't going to get the chance to. Underneath the robes she wore, which covered her entire body, were some clothes more suited for swimming and being wet, even if she wasn't exactly confident in her figure. Eventually, she found a good spot and just started with sitting down, watching the ocean sway forwards and backwards. "Perhaps this is what I need after all the trouble i've been having..." She thought to herself.
[8:57 PM] EyePierce: Finding the Jera had taken Relgia a bit more work than she had been expecting. Nyrandisa had struck Relgia as more of the bookish type, a person more than happy to stay indoors and busy themselves with whatever project they had invented for themselves. Instead, after about a hour of searching and a few key tips from the locals she found herself walking across a scenic beachside towards the sleight woman. Stopping a few feet away Relgia crouched down, sitting on the heels of her feet as she watched the sea ebb and flow. Glittering in the sunlight. "Ah, I don't mean ta trouble ya if yer lookin' for some quiet time fer yerself, but I've been meanin' ta have a chat with ya." The words were a bit hushed and awkward, and the Kano didn't drop her gaze from the spectacle in front of her.
[9:12 PM] NethaEmerald: When Relgia spoke up, Nyra's antennae twitched a little in response to the voice and caused her head to turn around. She had seen this person amongst The Pack before, but never found a good moment to talk to her. Well, the moment was now. "Am I really that popular?" She joked a little. "Anyways, what did you need? That will determine how long I could stay here."
[9:27 PM] EyePierce: "Heh. Well yer noticeable at tha least." Well she was in good humor at least. That was a start. "I'm uh... tryin' ta branch out a bit. I'd like ta say I'm pretty mean in a tussle, but I can't always just run out and hit something with a piece o' metal." She paused, a bit tongue tied. "W-well I could. I got tha muscle for it, an' I've been trainin' ta whack thinks since I was yea-'igh." One of her backhands made a slight wag a couple feet off of the ground. "But I shouldn't. Axes aren't always tha right answer ta things an' I've sorta landed in a rut as far as they go anyway." "So, I guess I was wonderin' if I could hear about what you do. It's different than the sort of stuff slung around on Fotia, an' I always sorta admired mages, even if I couldn't shape fire worth a damn."
[9:33 PM] NethaEmerald: Nyrandisa quickly gathered that Relgia wanted to learn how to use Dark Magic. It was the only logical option. She was incapable of using the Enhancements she did in battle, and she couldn't do any other magic. "So you want to learn Dark magic, yes?" She asked back, slowly sitting up straight more. She looked up at Relgia now and asked "And why dark in particular? What would you do with the power if you ever gained it?"
[9:48 PM] EyePierce: Relgia shifted her sitting squat to be directed at her winged companion and gave a nod of her head. "Yeah. The dark wavy "voosh' stuff ya got." She gave a brief smile. "Not daft enough to try an' learn Jera mojo." "Second question's easy enough. Jett's not around to teach me his light-beams an' I tried anima. Elements, an' tradin' power an' learnin' the ins and outs of all that. I could even get a whisp of flame that didn't come outta me though. 'Ventually just quit. Can't dock ina dry harbor." "If I manage ta figure out this, though?" The Kano's voice picked up in enthusiasm for a moment as she thought about it. "I'd be loads better at fightin' right? I could blast open stone or just throw magic right back in people's smug faces when they do it ta me, right? I don't imagine I'll learn right off, but when I do it'll be another tool I can use ta get me outta binds, right?"
[9:57 PM] NethaEmerald: "So she wants to learn it to fight better. A typical response." She thought to herself. Eventually, the Jera stood up and explained "I don't teach dark magic just for someone to go out and only fight with it. Failure to control it right can lead to bad things happening. I've had them happen to me before, and am still suffering. So as of right now, i'm not fully convinced that I should be teaching you. That's not to say I won't, but I need to know if you'd be even capable of understanding it and controlling it."
[10:15 PM] EyePierce: Relgia stood as her companion rose, unintentionally towering over the petite Jera. Sure, she didn't understand dark magic as a whole, but that was to be expected if she hadn't come into much contact with it. A bit frustrated, she twirled a strand of hair with her main left hand and her two backs clasped behind her spine. "Look, I get that a tool can be dangerous if it's not properly cared for. If ya don't coil rope it'll catch a man's foot and twist it clean off. One bad board can sink a vessel if it's crewed by idiots." Relgia jabbed her left hand down, thumb first into her own chest. "I don't know nothin' 'bout dark magic. I don't know how ta use it if it's not smashin' or killin' somethin'. But I'm not stupid. I respect tha stuff I use."
[10:20 PM] NethaEmerald: After Relgia went into a metaphor fit about how similar things could be done, Nyra let out a soft little 'hmmmm' as she thought about the situation. Having someone else with the capability to use it could remove pressure from her, as she was the only one capable of doing such a thing right now. "You bring up some valid points. A chain is only as strong as the weakest link, after all. And if someone in the Pack falls behind in combat, it holds us all back... though I wish we didn't have to fight so much. Anyways, back on topic. I can see what I can do to teach you. The only limiting factor will be your capability to cast it, though that magic axe you use says you should be fine."
[10:39 PM] EyePierce: "My cap'n said I wasn't destitute so much as tryin' to make lemonaide outta oranges, whatever that means. An' aye, The axe does just sorta make me concentrate and shoot blades outta itself. But ridin' that same wave, it's the axe doin' the work. I can't form it ta 'it things the way I want, and I could slice somethin' twice as fast as it takes tha weapon." Relgia shrugged with her front shoulders, scrunching her face thoughtfully as she considered the problem. "I guess that's my biggest hitch. Not bein' in control of tha axe as well as I should be. I don't know a lot 'bout yer dark magic, but I feel like... I've hit my limit ta what that axe can do. An' it's not impressive." She gave Nyra a questioning glance before continuing on, "That's sorta why I spied you out. I wanted ta know more 'bout the sorta stuff you did. See if I could learn tha ropes an see if I could... Grow."(edited)
[10:44 PM] NethaEmerald: Nyrandisa nodded in response to all the stuff that Relgia had said "I can show you the ropes. Just a shame I no longer have my most basic dark tome... I guess a slightly custom one will have to do." She said as she pulled a tome out from her robes. Yes; she never goes anywhere without her tomes. She handed the book over to Relgia. "So the basics of dark magic are drawing energy from the written tome itself. Actually, most magic operates that way; using the tome or staff as a channel for energy. Why don'y you give it a try. Could test on a rock, a tree, or even myself. I'm sure I could handle the energy coming at me."
[11:01 PM] EyePierce: Taking the tome, Relgia cradled the item in her hand, trying to remember the way she had seen Mars or Nyra hold their 'weapon'. Not comfortable with trying to hit Nyrandisa despite her assurances, Relgia instead turned back towards the ocean, breathing out a little as her nerves began to race and her flame instinctually picked up heat. "Alright then, jus' channel tha energy. Like tha axe. Jus' feel an' thrust..." Both arms on her right side extended in a pointing gesture as she cradled her package and did what she felt was a suitably 'magic' pose. Nothing. The waves lapped peacefully at the shore. The sea sparkled from the light of the sun, and though she reset and repeated her pose once, though she tried to thrust out with a magic fist to make a breeze, part the water, something-... the afternoon was pleasant, warm, and magical only in the most metaphorical sense.
[11:07 PM] NethaEmerald: Nyrandisa watched as Relgia tried with little guidance, and the result was as expected. "Hmm... about the typical result for a first-timer. How I normally use my tomes is I, uh, siphon energy and... well... This isn't quite like Anima magic, where the magic comes from the book. Dark Magic work in a vein where it surrounds the target in magic out of seemingly thin air. So instead of trying to make something come from the book at something, think of the target and focus your energy on surrounding it in magic. And what I mean by siphoning power is drawing it from the book in a usable manner. So focus on the target and the book at the same time." She took a breath. She was never the best at explaining things...
[11:22 PM] EyePierce: The remark that she hadn't outright failed was reassuring at least. "S-so I uh... use the book ta squeeze stuff?" That was... confusing. But not one to simply dismiss advice, Relgia tried to visualize the book bursting open and flying at the space in front of her, perhaps making a sphere out of the water before releasing and crashing the substance back into the sea, thrusting out her hand in that same motion. Nothing. The book remained inert, the sea calmly swept across the shore unrestricted by any sort of magical tug. Frustrated, she tried again. The book would figuratively burst open, sweeping the water up into a twister, and dash it against the beach! But though she pointed demandingly, the water only obeyed it's own whims.(edited)
[11:39 PM] NethaEmerald: Nyrandisa decided to take the book to show Relgia how it's done. "I'll borrow that for a moment." She held the book in her hands as she pointed to a nearby palm tree, to indicate her target. She focused on the target as the book glowed lightly and dark, spectral, purple fangs bit down hard on the tree's trunk. "So notice how nothing came from the book or commanded any elements. Dark Magic summons dark energy around the target. It does nothing with any of the anima elements. On the flipside, a Poison-type tome uses a different energy inside of you, one that I have little of."
[11:50 PM] EyePierce: "Alright. I focus on tha book. Pick my target. Dark fangs bite tha thing. Then where does my magic come inta this? Shouldn't I be channelin' power inta tha book or like, try and thrust it out towards the target too?" This wasn't coming easy to the woman, and she crossed a pair of arm in front of her, venting a jet of fiery heat into the sand beneath her feet.
[11:52 PM] NethaEmerald: "Channel power into and from the book. Don't act like you're trying to thrust at the target," Nyrandisa explained a little further. Relgia had actually brought up a good point that she hadn't considered when explaining it the first time. "Focus on the target and then the book and your own power will do the rest."

[12:09 AM] EyePierce: "Alright. Lemme have 'nother go at it." Taking the tome, Relgia squared off against the tree. The phantom fang marks have a marker for how the spell should go. All she needed to do was get the steps right, and funnel her power, then combine it with the book's. No stream of magic from item to the target. Just a nigh-instantaneous materialization of magic, willpower, and whatever strange formula the book held. Letting out another breath, Relgia vented off more heat. Her face cooled and her frazzled nerves, while still present, weren't as pressing. Her charcoal colored palms rose, hands outstretched towards the tree. Her left arm clutched the tome tightly to her chest. Magic, she imagined, flowed into the tome and back out of it, this time with it's own magic essence tagging along. Her eyes refocused on her target. And, in her mind, she willed the magic to form in front of the tree. Fangs split reality. Unlike Nyrandisa's they were small and thin, more like a house cat than a wolf's maw, but the purple phantoms took hold of the tree, causing a few minor scratches next to the mangled bark the first set had plunged into. And... Relgia was frozen. Her nerves finally docile, her face cool yet disbelieving.
[12:34 AM] NethaEmerald: When Relgia took the tome back and focused on it, Nyra didn't think much would happen. However, when the magic came at the tree, Nyra smiled. "That's the ticket. Thats how you do it. The more you practice, the stronger it will become. But I have to admit; i've never seen anyone be able to pick it up that quickly. Perhaps you have a natural talent for Dark Magic I wasn't aware of."
[12:42 AM] EyePierce: The words sunk in, when even the results hadn't. A grin split Relgia's face, and she made an obscene gesture with her finger at the tree. "Aye, look at that, ya bendy scalliwag, I marked ya! I did magic, real honest ta goddess magic!" She spun at Nyra, tossing the tome she had been holding so carefully to the ground and lifted the smaller woman off of her feet, spinning her around in the air giddily. "I made it bite tha blazin' tree! Ya taugh me magic!"
[12:45 AM] NethaEmerald: She had expected a wide variety of results from Relgia. However, what the woman had actually done caught her totally off-guard. With a small 'eep, Nyrandisa was suddenly lifted into the air and spun around. Being honest, how Relgia was hugging her was actually causing pain to her wing. "Eep- mind letting me down... it hurts..." She asked with almost a whimper to her voice. "A-anyways, I know I did..."
[12:59 AM] EyePierce: "Sorry lass, this better?" Her back hands grabbed the Jera by her waist, keeping her two or so feet off the ground and raising her head just a little above Relgia's and spread her main arms enthusiastically outward. "I actually scratched tha thing, ya know! It's leagues better than what I ever did as a little rapscallion, an' even tha cap'n couldn't figure out how ta teach me! This is~!" She spun twice more, grinding her heel down into the soft sand of the beach, and then bent down and plopped Nyra down onto the ground roughly where she had been picked up, tousling her long purple hair with affection. "I can't even! I mean, by tha heat of my flame, 'ow did I manage that!? I don't even remember what I was blazin' doin'!"(edited)
[1:07 AM] NethaEmerald: Well, that surely helped with the pain, but it only made her feel more... awkward. Upon being picked up by the waist now, Nyra's face went red at the whole thing. Not even being let down calmed her down, as she found her hair being played with! She was at a loss for words at the moment. Even with the red face clear, she took a deep breath and responded with "Uh, yes. Yes you did. Uh... you channeled the power correctly? I'm really frazzled right now..." as she rubbed her temples a little, face still slightly red.
[1:17 AM] EyePierce: Rubbing her own face to try and get herself under control, Relgia let out a couple of giggling chuckles before she managed to get ahold of her faculties. No longer completely beaming, but still stuck with an unmovable grin. "Right, I channeled the power in an' out o' tha book. Formed it at tha tree. Took a lil'..." She couldn't help having another burst of muted laughter escape her mouth before she continued. "A lil' tiny bite on tha trunk. Why's that? Was it jus' I need practice, or are some spells better fer other people?"
[1:22 AM] NethaEmerald: When Relgia asked that question, Nyra's face had calmed down a lot. In response to the question, the Jera responded "Practice. That is exactly it. Just keep trying, and the power and capabilities will become stronger and stronger. Just like sailing and axe fighting. I would be no good at those to start, but with enough perseverence, i'm sure I could do it well."
[1:33 AM] EyePierce: "Then I'll keep at it! I'll need all the time I can squeeze in ta make this somethin' I can rely on." That said, Relgia bended down to pick up the tome she had tossed aside and brushed the grit delicately out of the corner it had fallen on before taking her stance. Time would tell if she could become truly proficient in this craft, but for now she had a willing teacher, some small talent with the magic, and her own fiery competitive spirit pushing her forward. === End RP ===
