[4:32 PM] TastyChicken12: The soft blue dawn of Ramalia's north permeated out into the hills and acacia woods of the lands. A gentle, chilly breeze crossed the land, bringing with it dried up plants and grains of flying sand and small fragments of gravel. At this hour, few were up. It was largely foolish for anyone, except those in desperate need of solitude, to be awake at four AM. It was simply too cold for people to want to leave their homes at this time.

Kiera looked out at the drylands of her nation. The rains had been sparse this year, but the crops had luckily come in this time. Could the village even survive another season without the blessings of the rain? This was something that the farmers of Manx would often pray for, but this particular tribe member wasn't about to. Never having prayed on her own volition, Kiera asked her namesake for just a little strength. Today, she was ready to do the bravest thing she's ever done.

She was going to tell her parents that she was pregnant.

[4:37 PM] TastyChicken12: This'll be ugly, she thought to herself. Kiera knew about the stigma that was prevalent in her culture: no making love before marriage, and certainly no marriage before the age of eighteen. These two things were strictly forbidden, and the former was one of the only traditions that she didn't keep.

But what choice did she have? It's not like she could hide this forever. And having no full, paid job of her own? Kiera was utterly dependent on her parents for her survival in the rough lands of Ramalia's north. No, hiding it would make it worse. She'd lied plenty of times before about where she was going to make sure that her even more traditional parents wouldn't know about what exactly she was doing.

[4:41 PM] TastyChicken12: They're gonna hate me, she thought next. They "ain't" had hated her ever before when speaking of her problems, but this could really hurt the family and the tribe. It wasn't like her parents had much time or money to spare to look after and pay for her future child.

Another breeze came by. It was getting to about the time that the farmers headed out to work, before the afternoon sun came out.

*Reckon that Dad'll be heading to the fields soon," was her next thought. Talking to one without the other was a plan destined to fail.

I'll wait until after dinner, when the sun's down, and when they're both in a better mood than when they's just got back from laborin', Kiera strategized.

[4:43 PM] TastyChicken12: Kiera laid her head back against the roof of the sandstone home and looked at the stars.

"God, just come on. I ain't do much for ya, but just this once," Kiera pleaded again.

[4:49 PM] TastyChicken12: Her heart beated heavily and she felt like sobbing like an infant. Why didn't she just stop and THINK of the consequences beforehand? That way, this whole situation could've been avoided! Nope, she just rushed into it.

Kiera slowly tiptoed to the ladder that led into the home itself, and crawled back into her bed, pretending that she was asleep. Her parents, after all, knew that Kiera was obsessed with sleeping in, like most teenagers.

FUCK.

This was the only time she ever cursed in her life. What would the elders think of this? Would she be punished? Her parents punished? She didn't care if her ex-boyfriend was, but it wouldn't be fair to the Brennans if they did. About 15 hours later, at the deep orange of the sunset, Kiera finally initiated the conversation.

[4:51 PM] TastyChicken12: "Eh, Mom? Dad? I gotta, I gotta tell ya two somethin'."

She sat down on the rug in the middle of their den, and her parents followed suit. Arthur, her father, responded first.

"Sure, Kiera. You can tell us anythin', you know that?"

Anythin' at all? They ain't thought of everythin'.

Kiera blinked a few times and looked back and forth. Could she just lie and postpone talki-

"... uh, is something wrong?" her mother wondered.

[4:55 PM] TastyChicken12: "I guess you could say that," Kiera said, taking off her sweaty headband and letting her messy hair down into her eyes.

"Guys... I'm..."

Her heart was pounding ferociously, to the point where it made the teenager deeply uncomfortable. Having it be audible and slightly visible was just horrifying, but so was admitting this.

"... having a baby."

The house remained silent for a whole minute as her parents simply looked at each other and blinked. Kiera bit her lip and looked back and forth with her shoulders advancing upwards in a squeamish position. The only thing that made a noise was the wind.

"G-guys?"

[5:00 PM] TastyChicken12: After exchanging another look, Arthur swallowed deeply, which sent chills down Kiera's spine.

"Kiera... we don't hate you. This wasn't easy for you. We knew somethin' was wrong because you've been layin' down on the roof for weeks now."

... oops.(edited)

[5:44 PM] TastyChicken12: Siobahn, her mother, added in.

"No, I'm personally happy you told us. Things will be harder for the us and the village, I reckon, but I'm sure we can make it through," she said with a smile and her eyes closed.

Kiera smiled brightly and chuckled a little.

"Aw... thanks you guys."

Her mother answered, "That bein' said, Kiera, that ain't we're fully happy with this. It confirms what we've thought for a while now with that... hoodlum and you. It's already a new thin' for kids to bein' datin', but, you can't... just..."

Kiera cringed and threw her hands forwards. "Eh, I get that part! But I gotta think this ain't the first time that some chick's been in my shoes!"

The cringe was reciprocated by her parents. Her father raises and eyebrow and states, "Probably not."

[5:52 PM] TastyChicken12: "I just can't imagine how the rest of Manx'll think of this. I reckon some might be awful mad at us," her mother thought out loud.

"But Mom, ain't motherhood a celebrated thing here? Of course... they'll forgive me!" she tried to rationalize how bad her situation was.

"A lot might. Some I know won't," her father noted. "Impatient bastards... can't... Kiera, they sometimes forget that you're still young and do dumb things."

Kiera was at least happy they were more mad at the townspeople than her.

"So... you guys... do you guys still love me?" she half coughed out.

"Of course!" they both responded. "Once your kid is born, it'll just be the new normal! The four of us," her father said with a smile.

"We're gonna have to all stress ourselves to make it work, but anythin' for our descendants," Siobahn responded.

"And anything'for my ancestors!" Kiera shouted before hugging both her parents with the might of a transformed Wolf Laguz. "I know this will work. It just has to!"

Her first battle was over. This was not going to be her last, but at the time? She had no clue what was in store. Kiera took the victory.
