The sound of rain pounded the top of the glass dome, and the limestone pillars cast an ominous glow in the flickering torchlight. Dark rippling fishtanks filled with various aquatic life lined the walls, a few of them casting wavy shadows on the ground. The sound of revelry echoed in the background: Clinking glassware, Kano cooking, mindless chatter.
Millie’s footsteps echoed across the empty hallway. The party was fairly large, but it didn’t even take up a 4th of the space the aquarium had to offer.
“Sniff, Sniff”
Millie hated parties. They were always loud and crowded, and all the adults ever talked about were boring politics and business stuff. She just wished she could stay home by herself, but her parents said that she couldn’t until she was 12.
She found a crevice under a large fish statue and clambered inside, hugging her knees. Maybe she’d just hide here forever, live with the fishes. Then she wouldn’t have to goto the stupid parties.
“Millie! Millie Where are you?”
It was her mother. Millie hugged her knees closer and tried to hide, but her mother’s sharp eyes spotted her anyways.
“There you are, what are you doing over here?”
The sharp clacking of her high heels grew as her mother approached Millie. The little girl hugged her knees tighter and looked away.
“Millie what’s wrong?”
[6:32 PM] cybershadowX: Her mother’s silver white hair tumbled over the red shoulder straps of her dress, the exact same shade as Millie’s own hair. It reflected the flickering lights like a beacon, shining in a sea of darkness. Unlike her brother, Millie looked almost exactly like her mother and she was tired of hearing that. She wasn’t her mother at all.
“I don’t like parties…Sniff”
Her mother pulled a red handkerchief out of nowhere and rubbed the tears off her daughter.
“That’s no reason to cry. I promise we’ll be going back home soon. Plus, there are other girls your age here too, why don’t you play with them?”
The other girls were probably the worst. Not only did they talk about boring things like dolls, clothing, and who had the nicest pony, they would also relentlessly bully Millie.
”What kind of dress is that? Did you steal it from a peasant from Ramalia?”
”Look at her hair, she must be secretly 70 years old. Gross.”
The echoes of their jeers still lingered in her head. She didn’t want to go back to the party at all.
“Can we go home now? I’m sleepy.”
Her mother sighed and flipped her hair over her head elegantly. Her husband was still talking with a few clients and she had to stay as well. She couldn’t send Millie home by herself either.
“I’m sorry sweetie but mommy and daddy still need to do something.”
“But I wanna go now!”
Millie crossed her arms and glared at her mother.
“How about I give you a present?”
“Present? What kind of present?”
Millie liked presents.
[6:32 PM] cybershadowX: “If you wait here and promise to be a good girl, I’ll come back with a present ok?”
Millie nodded enthusiastically as her mother’s high heels clacked away. She wondered what kind of present it would be.
---
5 Minutes had passed but it felt like a year to Millie. The pounding of the rain against the roof and the the call of a distant creature began drill into Millie, but she didn’t move. She had to be a good girl and get her present.
Clack Clack Clack
The sound of high heels returned. Millie quickly turned around and looked for her present.
“Oh it’s that girl.”
The shadow of 2 girls emerged from the torchlight. Millie quickly hid behind the statue but they had already saw her.
“You don’t need to hide, come on let’s play together.’
Tatiana and Britney were her least favorite classmates from school. Both were daughters of rich businessmen and always seemed to have the nicest clothing. Furthermore, they loved to mock Millie and her choice of dress, and sometimes spread false rumors about her being secretly poor.
“I don’t wanna play, go away.”
Tatiana smiled, and then flipped her hair over her back.
“Aww, but we were having so much fun back at the party.”
Britney nervously stands back as Tatiana leans forward. Millie turns her head away but can’t escape her tormentor’s gaze.
“Why don’t we play a different game. Like house! Britney will be the mommy. I’ll be the daddy, and you can be the dirty little dog that sleeps under the trashcan.”
Millie shook her head and tried to get away. She could smell the perfume in Tatiana’s perfectly brushed hair and hated it.
“Millie? Are you still there?”(edited)
[6:32 PM] cybershadowX: Tatiant quickly stepped back as she heard the voice of Millie’s mother.
“I’m back! And I got you your present! Oh hello there girls. I’m so glad Millie was able to make some friends here.”
Tatiana quickly plastered on a fake smile and happily responded,
“Good evening Ms. Bismarck! We were playing house together!”
When Millie turned around she saw her Mother holding the largest, fluffiest stuffed whale she had ever seen. It was almost as tall as Millie, and both Tatiana and Britney’s eyes widened with jealousy.
“Look what I got you! Isn’t it cute?”
Her mother handed Millie the whale.
“You’re father has finished working so we can go home now. Say bye bye to your friends.”
Millie hugged the whale and peeked over it’s tail. It was almost as tall as Millie herself, and she had to hold it above her head so it’s tail wouldn’t drag against the ground.
“Bye…”

Oh yea, gift shop was closed so Millie’s mom probably stole the whale.
