Millie's wooden training sword cut through the air. She felt angry, but couldn't locate the source. Was it herself? Someone else? Her day had been otherwise fine. She had gotten up at sunrise, went for a jog, eaten breakfast, and now she was alone in the woods practicing again.
[Load Stance: Arbiter's Direct]
Millie started with the basic attacks of her stance. 3, 4, and 5, accompanied with the respective parries for each of the attacks, along with a few self implemented parries for other weapons.
I'm going to have to train harder now that I'm part of the pack. Defending myself from bounty hunters will be nothing compared to this.
She begins to incorporate the footwork into her drills. Before the attacks were basic slashes, but combined with the twists and steps they flowed like a river down the mountain. The bushes and leaves danced to the force of each strike and the occasional bird chirped its mating call.
Legs wider, knees bent, head up.
Renault's words echoed in her mind. Arbiter's Direct was her least favorite stance. It required way too many spins and disengages to be effective, but still she practiced.
Useless.
Millie twisted and spun in the air before landing awkwardly.
"Ugh!"
Shouting in anger she blasts energy into the training blade before chucking it at a tree. It spins rapidly and smacks the trunk hit forward before clattering to the ground.
It's not even that time of the month, why am I so worked up
Millie walks up and picks the sword back up.
Maybe I should take the day off.
[6:10 PM] Dea | LOVES himself: A slow clap was heard from the far end of the clearing. It appeared Millie was less alone than she had originally thought.
Lucifel was leaning idly against a tree, appearing rather amused at Millie's outburst. However, the smile spread across his thin face wasn't reflected in the man's cold eyes.
"A rather unusual technique." the ruby-eyed man drawled. "Tell me, does disarming yourself during combat usually prove to be of use? I can't claim to be particularly knowledgeable on the subject. After all..."
Pushing off from the tree, Lucifel slowly stalked closer with a purposeful gait.
"You're the one experienced in murder, not me."(edited)
[7:22 PM] Cyber The Birb: Millie walked over to where she had thrown her sword before turning to her observer.
"I have no idea what you're talking about. Maybe there's a different girl you're trying to harrass."
As she picks up her sword she gives it a sharp flick, sending the mud flying towards the ground.
"Goodbye."
Purposefully ignoring him she begins to walk back towards Maufi.
What did he mean by murder...?
[7:37 PM] Dea | LOVES himself: Lucifel raised an eyebrow in response, and opened his mouth to retort. But by that point, Millie was already striding away from him.
He eyed her warily as she crossed the clearing, not trusting the woman to make an attempt on his life as soon as his back was turned. It wasn't until she was fully out of his sight that Lucifel relaxed his guard.
The criminal summoned a training sword of dull light identical to the one Millie had just been using, before mimicking the earlier demonstration of the form, with naught but the birds in the trees for company.(edited)
[7:47 PM] Cyber The Birb: As Millie walked back something kept nagging her in the back of her head.
What did he mean by "murder"?
The question ate her from the inside out, and soon it became unbearable.
I have to find out.
Turning on her heel she returns to the forest clearing from which she had left.
[8:09 PM] Dea | LOVES himself: As Millie neared, Lucifel turned to face her, instantly taking on an expression of bemusement. As he did so, he made sure to move the mock sword behind his body, dismissing it as soon as he was sure there was no chance of her noticing.
No need to inspire unnecessary questions. he thought to himself, brushing a stray lock of hair that the wind had ruffled.
"Ah, yes, you're back. I was wondering how long it would take you." Lucifel replied impassively. "So? What is it you want?"
[8:10 PM] Cyber The Birb: Millie folded her arms and looked at the man in the eye.
"What did you mean by murder."
[8:22 PM] Dea | LOVES himself: "Oh, you have my utmost apologies." Lucifel replied in stride. "You mean to question which murder. I hadn't meant to insult your talents by implying you had only killed once."
He pointed an accusatory finger at Millie, while the well-dressed man's eyes blazed coldly.
"I refer to naught but the murder of Caspin, son of Castillus of the Symvoulvio. Killed two years ago, by your hand and blade."
[8:32 PM] Cyber The Birb: Millie froze. Every nerve in her body screamed at her to act, but her muscles refused. Was he a bounty hunter? A friend? A mercenary? If he was here then she was in trouble. She reached for her sword but all she had was her wooden stick.
"Why - what do you want?"
Memories of that night began to resurface. Again. Why was she so weak? She did her best to hold back her tears, and turned her head down.
[10:34 PM] Dea | LOVES himself: Lucifel, for his part, was so caught up in his presentation that he didn't notice the effect his words were having on the young woman.
"Please don't misunderstand- I have no wish to act against you. Assassination is a perfectly honest field of work; To blame you for Caspin's death is tantamount to blaming a messenger for grim tidings."
"That being said, I am interested to hear who paid who off for such an elaborate scheme. Building up a rapport with young Caspin over such a long period, only to get him alone so you could slay him? Truly, your previous employer must have had deep pockets to have paid you off for such a grand scheme." Lucifel gestured as he spoke. "Or perhaps your friendship with him was genuine, until the promise of money made you draw steel upon him?"
He shook his head. "But I lose track of myself. Your means matter not. I'm speaking to you today because I house interest in hearing who would want to inflict a blow such as this on my associate, Castillus. I assure you, I can pay you neatly for your information."
[10:53 PM] Cyber The Birb: Millie clenched her fists in anger. She wasn't sure whether this man was mocking her further or stupid.
"It wasn't..."
She couldn't bring up the words to say it.
The wind ruffled the forest leaves, and the birds chirped cheerfully, ignorant of Millie's breakdown.
"I didn't mean to..."

[11:14 PM] Dea | LOVES himself: Lucifel paused to let her get a hold of herself. She was clearly in the midst of overcoming a moral dilemma of some sort. It was only natural; as the undertaking in question was undoubtedly a large part of her life, and the well-dressed man was pressuring her to disclose it, after all.
It probably didn't help that the common folk were rather weak-willed in comparison to a gentleman such as himself.(edited)
[11:41 PM] Cyber The Birb: "Ok."
Millie managed to get ahold of herself, and wiped the moisture from her face.
"Ok...."
She took a deep breath and sat with her back to a tree, dropping the sword to a ground.
"I'll tell you on one condition."
She takes another breath before looking at the man in the eyes.
"You tell me who the fuck you are."
Gone was the despair and helplessness in her voice. Like a geyser leaking from the earth her rage begins the simmer, the pupils of her eyes transmitting straight forward.(edited)

[9:46 AM] Dea | LOVES himself: He rubbed his brow. "Please, be mindful of your language. There are ladies present." Lucifel replied with a straight face.
"I usually refrain from answering questions provided in response to other questions... but in this case, I'll make an exception."
The gentleman gestured to himself while holding his head high. "My name is Lucifel Morningstar, esteemed Head of Information for the Symvoulvio. It is my duty to acquire information that will lead to the betterment of Rettatti's society." He narrowed his eyes at the slightly younger woman. "The identities of those who would order attacks on relatives of the Symvoulvio very much fall under my obligations."
[1:56 PM] Cyber The Birb: Millie rolled her eyes and resolved to cuss whenever she felt like it in front of this man.
Lucifel Morningstar huh....
Her father may have dealt with him before. Symvoulvio intel head was no joke, and this person still thought she killed Caspin on purpose.
"What's the head of the Symovoulvio intel chain doing all the way in Psari?"
Millie's head raced. Almost all senior Symvoulvio officials stayed within their guarded castles in Rettati, either Lucifel was an odd one or he defected.
"Castillus not paying you enough?"
[2:37 PM] Dea | LOVES himself: The beorc man frowned. "You're in quite the inquisitive mood, aren't you."
"As much as I adore telling commoners about the affairs of government officials, I'm afraid that information is not free. I doubt you'd be able to afford it, but should you prove me wrong, I'd be glad to let you buy it."
He waved a hand dismissively. "Meandering questions aside, I believe you had something to tell me?"
[2:48 PM] Cyber The Birb: "Fine."
Millie had finally managed to calm down for the most part but she was still grumpy.
"Caspin died during a training accident."
Millie almost laughed. It sounded so stupid when she said it out loud.
"He died because his sword broke during training."
"But of course, Castillus wouldn't understand."
Millie slumped against the tree and stared at the leaves. She felt humiliated.
[3:34 PM] Dea | LOVES himself: "A training accident?" Lucifel inquired. It was, by all accounts, a ridiculous thought. But not impossible. And the girl was putting on quite the show of regret. He resolved not to let his guard down, but not to completely dismiss the idea either.
The crimson-haired man slowly approached Millie, unsure of whether to provide comfort or to continue interrogating her.
"How... how does that even happen? And the wound on Caspin was caused by a bladed weapon, not some wooden training sword. Do you mean to tell me the two of you were 'training', in solitude, with real weapons?"
His voice was softer now, less confrontational. "I'm sorry, but you have to understand how this sounds to an outsider."
[3:45 PM] Cyber The Birb: "Look at it this way. No one loved Caspin, not even Castillus. He was nothing compared to his brother and sister, so why kill him?."
She slowly reaches down and picks up her wooden training sword.
"As for the sharpened sword..."
She holds up the sword vertically, as if displaying it in a shop to a prospective buyer.
Her energy forces itself into the wood, eating away at the atoms and radiating a dark red glow. After a few seconds, energy disperses, and the edge of the wooden sword is honed into a razor sharp blade. Millie gives it a casual swing, before plunging it into the dirt smoothly.(edited)
March 20, 2018
[3:29 PM] Dea | LOVES himself: "He didn't need to be loved. It was obviously a threat." Lucifel spoke matter-of-factly. "The point was that Caspin was supposed to be safe. And yet he died. The unspoken threat towards Castillus and his immediate family was obvious."
He paused as Millie demonstrated with her sword. "Ah, magical enchantment of a kind. Well, that explains everything except for the fact that it makes even less sense!"
Lucifel gestured at the blade between them. "So it wasn't simply a matter of not having training weapons on hand. You deliberately turned a blunt sword into a murder weapon via magic. For a supposed practice match."
The criminal let out a long sigh and pressed a hand to his face in exasperation. "Your story is becoming less credible the more you explain. I should have walked away when I could have convinced myself it was an accident."(edited)
[4:24 PM] Cyber The Birb: Millie admitted to herself that the magic sword explanation sounded a bit unbelievable. It took herself half a year to even understand what happened, it wouldn't be surprising that Lucifel wouldn't make sense out of it either.
"The practice match was supposed to be just that, a practice match. I'm not a true mage, and I don't have one hundred percent control over the energy flow, but considering your current point of view telling you that this was an accident would not convince you other wise."
Millie picked up the blade and sheathed it again.
"That is all I have for you Head of Information for the Symvoulvio. Do with it what you will."(edited)
March 22, 2018
[10:24 PM] Dea | LOVES himself: "Hmph." Lucifel idly flipped his pocketbook in his hand. "You're either telling the truth, or concealing it. In the case of the former, I don't need to follow up, and if it's the latter, there's little I can do to convince you to shed your secrets."
He shrugged offhandedly. "Torture's off the table; I doubt I'd be skilled enough to extract anything of note. You'd just tell me what I wanted to hear in order to get it to stop." The man frowned in chagrin.
"Well, it would look like there's little more to be said. Thank you for your cooperation, however genuine it may have been." Lucifel offered a short bow before turning away. "A pleasure meeting you, Millie. I pray we have the opportunity to speak again under less... tenuous circumstances."
[11:39 PM] Cyber The Birb: "Wait."
Millie reached out to grab him before he left but decided touching him wouldn't be a good idea.
"I know you don't like answering questions but I need to know one last thing.
She gulped as she braced herself for the answer.
"Is my family still alive?."
March 27, 2018
[10:51 PM] Dea | LOVES himself: He paused momentarily, before slowly turning back to face her.
"The Symvoulvio doesn't charge its citizens with the offenses of their spawn, Miss Millie. I assure you, your family is in good health, aside from undoubtedly being worried about you. A shame my countrymen don't share the same opinions as I towards assassins. If that were the case, you would actually be able to return home."
When Lucifel spoke next, it sounded as if he wasn't sure of what he was saying. "If you want... I could make sure a message from you is passed on to them." He seemed vaguely uncomfortable with his own suggestion, and absentmindedly ran his hand through his hair in what could have been a nervous gesture. "Though make no mistake, ma'am. This is for their sake, not yours."(edited)
[11:44 PM] Cyber The Birb: Millie noticed the change in tone.
This doesn't sound like the Symvoulvio at all...
She considered Lucifel's offer. It didn't seem like him at all, and he had no reason to care for her family unless they had met before. It was possible. Father had dealt with a lot of people for work.
"Tell them I'm alive and still living, and that I love them."
This sounds like something in a children's book.
"Tell them not to worry. Think of it like I'm traveling abroad. I promise I'll find them again. Wherever it may be."
Even if it's after I've embraced Kyria's warmth.
March 28, 2018
[12:08 PM] Dea | LOVES himself: Lucifel nodded, mentally restraining himself from mocking the slightly younger woman.
Pulling out his notebook, he scribbled a few short sentences with an ornate fountain pen procured from his jacket. After giving it a once-over, he snapped his notebook shut and nodded.
"Consider it done. Is there anything else I might assist you with?" he asked, his tone implying his offer was little more than a formality.
[5:02 PM] Cyber The Birb: "That will be all, thank you."
Millie got up from where she leaned against the tree and turned her back to Lucifel. She took the now sharpened wooden sword from the ground and flicked the dirt off it before strapping it to her belt.
"I apologize for my initial attitude. It was unnecessary."
She undoes the handkerchief, letting her long silver hair loose before replacing it with a cleaner one.
"Till our paths cross again."
And with that, she left the forest clearing.
