[8:00 PM] Loyal: Immediately after the party declares it's time to set up camp, Cirocco stumbles off on his own, wings kept close to his body, in the direction of the stream. He's moves at a brisk pace, using his left arm to support himself as he navigates the trees in his way, but it's clear that each step is laborious.(edited)
[11:33 PM] NethaEmerald: After the entire investigation crew set up camp, Nyrandisa had hoped for some time alone. After her last conversation with Suleiman, and with time where not a lot was going on, she had grown a little mopey.
"Will I even be accepted back home after this investigation? What if it's not enough? What wil they recquire of me? What if they won't let me back at all? Where would I set up a new home and life?" That was just a sample of the thoughts blowing through her head.
However, upon seeing one of the party's own go off on his own, and clearly in pain, Nyrandisa broke from her own internal darkness to realize that he wasn't doing too well. Hoping to be able to give him a helping hand and remove herself from her current thought trends, she moved over to him, fluttering just above the ground.
"Are you okay? Do you need any help moving where you're going to?" She asked, offering a hand as a courtesy to indicate she was willing to help.
[11:47 PM] Loyal: Cirocco freezes up in surprise as the feminine voice calls to him from behind - his own pain was so great that his senses completely failed to notice her approaching - and in his confusion he crashes rudely into the ground, knocking the wind right out of his lungs with a groan.
While catching his breath, he chastises himself internally. Gods above, I do not need someone seeing me weak like this after what we just went through...
[11:52 PM] NethaEmerald: When Cirocco fell down after she called out to him, she grew sad. Here she was, only making it worse. However, upon examining him some more, something hit her. This was someone that she might have accidentially almost killed in the last fight! She had never meant to do something like that to him; she was only trying to help. Without even waiting for him to respond, she hurried over and helped him up, grounding herself and kneeling over to lift him up. Whether or not he accepted it was up to him.
"You do need help, if you keep doing stuff like that."(edited)
[12:03 AM] Loyal: "I'm just... tired," he lies through heavy breaths, looking to the river. "Fleeing ... from Nicousa was exhausting... needed a drink... I am fine..." Nyra manages to lift him with little difficulty - she's grabbed his one good arm and he's too out of it to properly resist, but he nonetheless refuses to give the satisfaction of beholding his savior.
His own thoughts begin to mock him for it. Look at you, little birdy Balmung, throwing yourself at the first woman to show you mercy.(edited)
[12:07 AM] NethaEmerald: She wasn't believing that he was okay for a second. However, when he mentioned Nicousa, she felt bad again. Should she apologize for Nicousa? She felt it wasn't neccessary at this time. At least, not until he brought it up himself.
"Then allow me to accompany you to get some water. I'm sure the camp might appreciate some brought back."
[12:14 AM] Loyal: Looks like some things never change, hm? his thoughts continue. Got yourself into more trouble than you could get out of, again, and now look where you are! Again!
"I'm sure... the camp would be grateful for that," he grimaces. Cirocco attempts to give a thumbs up, but his right arm doesn't do much more than twitch numbly. Ignoring that, he continues, "...I'd just slow you down. You should... go on ahead, I'll catch up..."
[12:20 AM] NethaEmerald: "Yes, I know they will be, but i'm not going to do it alone." Nyra told him. "If you're going to get a drink, then i'll help you there."
She wasn't going to take no for an answer. Well, unless he got angry with her over it, but she hoped that wouldn't happen. She did move around to his weaker side, however, and kept an arm ready to catch him should he come close to falling.
[12:27 AM] Loyal: "Nngh... you are persistent..." he admits.
His self-flagellation continues, taking on a new, feminine voice, and a new face - the face of Lady Nephylia.
You can't do everything by yourself, Balmung. Matter of fact, you can't do anything by yourself! You weren't sent on this trip to grow as a person, you were sent so that you'd know you couldn't make it a week without me! That's why you sent for help, right? Just admit it, like the slave you are! The slave you'll always be, Cirocco!
"I... maybe could use a little help, perhaps... Please be careful, that side's pretty tender..."(edited)
[12:31 AM] NethaEmerald: When he finally admitted that he needed help, Nyrandisa smiled.
"See? That wasn't so hard. Don't worry; I will be careful. Just sticking to the side that looks worse for wear is all. If you need to lean on it, feel free to do so, despite how small I am."
As she walked to the river with Cirocco, she grew... disturbed by the silence. She couldn't quite put her finger on what exactly felt eerie about it, though. As a result, she looked to break the silence by asking
"You mentioned fleeing from Nicousa. What exactly happened there?" She asked, despite how loaded that question was against her.
[12:39 AM] Loyal: Cirocco's breathing slowly returns to normal as he no longer needs to support his own weight alone. He staggers along slowly with Nyra, the sound of the stream's steady splashing giving him something to focus on. "We were ...fighting in the streets. One of their mages got a lucky hit on me. It... hurt. More than I thought it would. More than I thought it could."
Honesty feels good, doesn't it Cirocco? The sooner you admit you're nothing without others, the better a servant you'll be when you come home.(edited)
[12:44 AM] NethaEmerald: When Cirocco took her offer, Nyrandisa felt bogged down by it. He might not be that heaby, given how light birds are, but she herself wasn't physically strong either. Regardless, she kept a smile... until he explained his circumstance.
"Go on; tell him. Tell him you were the reason why he almost lost his life in Nicousa. He's already weak; feast upon it."
She cast that thought aside and instead said "Well, hopefully you'll go see our healers, magical or natural, and get some help for your injuries."
[12:55 AM] Loyal: "That might help. Can't give that lout all the blame, though. I do need to rest."
He chuckles weakly in spite of himself, as he lowers himself carefully to the edge of the stream. "When I came to, first thing I heard was the retreat order. I didn't really have the time to figure out how the rest of our forces were faring. I knew only that we were leaving before we found ourselves in the middle of a war. I might have ... put more stress on my injuries in the flight than was readily justified."
[12:59 AM] NethaEmerald: Once at the river, Nyrandisa looked around for anything that could be used to store water. The most she found was some abandoned pottery. She took the most intact piece and filled it up. As she did, she spoke back to Cirocco with
"Well, at least you made it out of there and can still function afterwards. That makes you probably tougher than a lot of us. Just be sure to try and take it easy, okay?"
[1:10 AM] Loyal: "Well... if that were all I did, we could talk about me 'taking it easy'. But you needn't worry much there about me exerting myself overmuch in the future. I'm not going to be able to do much fighting again. Not for a good while, at least..."
Before he explains himself, Cirocco kneels before the stream, using his good arm to pull up handfuls of water to drink from. Heedlessly, he keeps this going for a good half minute, like it were the most delicious thing he'd ever tasted.
Go ahead, tell her. Tell her about how you begged for help. The future is up to the whimsies of fate now. For once, you can't make it any worse!
[1:15 AM] NethaEmerald: As Cirocco continued to drink, Nyrandisa had finished filling up the one loose thing she found and fastening some sort of lid to it. It wasn't going to be very easy to bring back, but she might as well try. As she watched him drink the water down, she watched him with a smile and some amusement. It was almost like he never had good river water before. It was amusing in that sense, but probably rude to be amused by it. When he kept drinking, with seemingly no end in sight to satisfy his own thirst, Nyrandisa said
"Ease up a little there. Don't want you to be so heavy of water that you send me to the ground." with an obviously joking tone of voice.
"But drink as much as you need; seems like you deserve it."
[1:25 AM] Loyal: Once he's had his fill, Cirocco rolls over lamely, massaging his own side to ease the pain slightly. "Maybe ... maybe if I do, you'll have to leave me behind after all," he jests back. He almost laughs again, but the aching makes him think better of it.
For the first time since she snuck up on him, Cirocco dares to actually look at Nyra instead of going out of his way to avoid eye contact. "You're... one of our Jera?"
[1:29 AM] NethaEmerald: "Now, even if you weighed that much, I still wouldn't leave you behind." She was quick to come back with, her tone more serious as he started t try and soothe his own pains.
Deciding to set her own water down, she moved closer to him, indicating that she could massage if he wanted her do. She did respond to his question with "Indeed I am. Somewhat new to this group, but hoping i'm doing a fine enough job."
[1:40 AM] Loyal: "Well, that's very noble of you," Cirocco remarks, "but if you push yourself too hard you'll just end up like me."
He either doesn't notice or doesn't care either way about her gesture, but he does extend his good arm to her. "Cirocco, by the way. Wish that could be under less pathetic circumstances, but it would be unforgivably rude of me to continue without, if you're new."
[1:45 AM] NethaEmerald: When he remarked about her pushing herself too hard, she giggled a little. "I might look small and dainty, but I assure you, i'm much tougher than I look. But i'll keep your own advice in mind."
She didn't mean for that to come off as harmful, but as he spoke again, she realized that it could. However, now she had something she had to do:
"Er... sorry if I came off as rude there. My name's Nyrandisa." she came back with as she helped him up by pulling him up gently.
[3:29 PM] Loyal: Cirocco lets himself just kinda get... hoisted up back into a sitting position. He'd meant to just offer a handshake, but this works too. He continues holding his side as he speaks. "Think nothing of it. This is my own fault more than anything... I'm sure you did your fair share in Nicousa, yourself, but I... suppose I'm not suited to fighting a war like that."
[4:58 PM] NethaEmerald: When Cirocco spoke of war, Nyranisa looked away.
"Well, that makes two of us. Well, for me, it's not wanting to be in a war to begin with. I was hoping for just investigation, not fighting. I don't want to be known as a fighter..."
[7:30 PM] Loyal: "It is as you say. From what My Lady had described, I expected to ask some questions, get some answers, maybe do a little forensics so we could track down our culprits. Then maybe the Drakone or whatever coalition the other nations would form could resolve it themselves. I didn't really expect to be on the front lines... There are plenty at home who could have handled that much better than I, that's for sure."
Cirocco glances to the stream again, then reaches down to his waist. There's an empty waterskin strapped to the side, and a mote of impatience crosses his face as he struggles to unclasp it with just the one good arm.
[7:35 PM] NethaEmerald: "I wish I didn't have to fight. I've done enough fighting. I don't want to be seen as a barbarian that kills to solve her own issues. It won't be good for my image down the line." She mumbled, mostly to herself.
She found herseld almost lost in thought again. At least, until she heard some sounds from Cirocco. When she opened her eyes, she watched as he tried to pick up a waterskin from his side. Moving over, she attempted to help him get it off.
"But I feel we're in too deep now to avoid fighting. I just hope there won't be total bloodshed battlefields."
[11:27 PM] Loyal: "I fear our images may be the least of our worries before we're done with all this," he sighs. "As you say, there will likely be more fighting, especially if, once word gets out of what happened, our mysterious foe targeting the Aurelius grows emboldened by our struggle. But, hopefully that all will be overshadowed once we're finished, and recognized for our de...eeds."
His midword pause comes with an awkward expression. He looks about ready to add to that, but shrugs it off.
As Nyra works on the waterskin, one thing is clear - it takes quite a bit of effort to remove the damn thing from his waist - but off it comes eventually, nonetheless. Cirocco hums appreciatively, lowers the waterskin to the river, and begins to fill it. "Heh. There we go, thank you. I usually make a habit of keeping my things firmly fastened to my body - it's only prudent when you fly around a lot - but it has its downsides if you've only one arm to work with..."
[11:32 PM] NethaEmerald: "Hopefully our good deeds will shine more than the means to get to the end." She responded with.
As the waterskin finally came off, she smiled when he seemed to hum happily in response. She never had to worry about things being too tight on her because she kept it all in robe pockets, and her robes were already very loose on her, though they didn't hide much physique. She waited patiently for Cirocco to fill his waterskin.
"I can imagine so. My own flights aren't nearly as exillerating, so nothing needs to be tight on me, and I prefer it that way. Gives me room to move and not be burdened. Though if you need a hald carrying the filled waterskin back, just let me know."
[11:44 PM] Loyal: With mock wounded pride, Cirocco says, "Come now, I'm not completely invalid, Miss Nyrandisa. I can care for myself."
Liar.
He leans against the tree, resting a moment, and inclines his head toward the damaged pottery. "Besides, I suspect you'll need every ounce of your dexterity if you plan to carry any water back to camp with that thing."
[11:47 PM] NethaEmerald: She looked down at the clay pot that she had. "Right... my flight isn't more than just some hovering, but i'll defer to your judgement and let you carry the waterskin back."
She wasn't even sure if it was worth bringing it back, but she was going to anyways. Someone might get some use of what she had, after all.
[11:52 PM] Loyal: "I'll catch up with you later, then? As I said, I wouldn't want to slow you down..."
He just stands there, rubbing his injuries. Doesn't seem like he's ready to leave yet.
[11:55 PM] NethaEmerald: "If you insist... I don't mind accompanying you back to camp." Nyrandisa responded with, waiting for his last words before making a final decision. Something felt... off about him, but she couldn't figure out what it was.
[12:02 AM] Loyal: Cirocco hesitates for a fair while, wrestling with some inner considerations. The slightest sag of his shoulders is the only movement he makes before he speaks up.
"It's up to you, Miss Nyrandisa" he concedes. "I don't wish to impose, but if you insist... I wouldn't say no."
[12:04 AM] NethaEmerald: After a few moments of thought, she said "I think i'll play it safe and just wait for you. I don't mind taking more time to get back to camp." with a soft smile.
[12:09 AM] Loyal: The avian lets himself relax as she speaks. "Thank you," he offers sincerely.
It takes a few minutes longer, but Cirocco does eventually push off the tree to be led back to camp - slowly, but much better off than before - with Nyra.
