A dark hand reached into the flickering flames of the campfire, re-arranging half-burnt logs into a more uniform appearance. For those spots still lacking, new logs were efficiently shoved into place and nursed into accepting the fire. Pulling her hand back, Relgia absentmindedly wiped her hand against her skirt, leaving a blackened trail of soot on the otherwise clean garment. A Kano's affinity for fire was probably the reason they were renown cooks and blacksmiths. Not necessarily because they could taste flavor or forge iron better than the other races, but simply because they could control the medium with which they worked better. No Kano artisan had to worry about burning themselves or waste precious time trying to force their hearth into acting the way they preferred. Which as it turned out, was her reason for coaxing this campfire.
Dragging the crate she was using as a table closer to the fire now that it's attitude was adjusted, Relgia began peeling a couple of fruit she had plucked from a nearby tree before coring it and slicing the fruit into sixteen pieces each. She didn't mind the juice seeping into the crate, instead pouring a handful of oats into an iron cup, shoving a wooden pestle into it and mashing the contents for a while. After she was satisfied she pour the remains into a skillet and refilled the cup, continuing until she had an ample layer of the stuff coating the bottom. Then she opened up a small tin by her side and scraped out a large chunk of lard onto the mashed oats, and (checking the fire one last time) set the skillet over the flames on a small metal rack. Grabbing a wooden spoon with a back-hand, she stirred it a few times to memorize the motion, then turned back to her makeshift table, arm still occasionally mixing the grain behind her.
The base done, Relgia unscrewed several more impressive looking jars. She poured a white sand into a bowl, followed by a more clumped brown-colored variant. Then she returned to the small iron cup, throwing in a curled brown stick and mashing it into a fine powder, pouring that into her mixture as well. That done, she glanced over at the oat-mixture to make sure all was well and adding more lard before grabbing a burlap sack and pouring a handful of de-shelled nuts into one of her hands. She rolled them around in her hand, squeezing until they crumbled into her bowl, continuing until there was a nice coating. She then tossed her fruit pieces into the bowl. This would usually be the last ingredient but instead, she pulled out the pomegranate from her pack and sliced off the top of the fruit, slicing her knife down the white sides producing large seedy slices. She brought these over to the bowl and one by one twisted the rind and popped the seeds off into the bowl. After that it was a simple process of rolling the juicy fruit and seeds in the powdered substance as possible, then pouring it into the skillet. After this it was a simple wait, and she passed the time by cleaning up her 'workstation'.
When it was ready, Relgia gingerly slid the golden-brown steaming crumble out of the skillet into her bowl and popped an almost whistlingly hot piece of fruit into her mouth. She closed her eyes and hummed pleasantly. Just like father used to make.

"Hmm? Aye, I s'pose. Good food's meant ta be shared after all. Ya got a sweet-tooth then?"
Relgia passed the wooden bowl over to the Laguz in front of her. He was the one that tagged along with Zain. Himya. Himahya? Something like that. She picked out a steaming bit of fruit from the dish and swallowed it in two quick bites, licking the sweet juice from her thumb. Absentmindedly she looked at the man's thrashing appendage. There'd been a stray dog where she grew up. The kids around took turns feeding it scraps. Sometimes hot food like this too though they had gotten scolded for it. The animal couldn't stand the hea-
"Ah. It's err. Hot. Grabba... Erm." She hadn't brought a fork or anything like that with her. A quick glance didn't bring up anything either, so she vented out a tuft of heat and then grabbed a hunk of fruit and crust with her off-hand. "Here. Blow on it a bit before ya wolf (heh)it down. Came right outta the fire."

The antics of this laguz were a bit too much and Relgia let out a gut-wrenching snort before breaking out into a loud bout laughter.
"Ach, well, -Haha, snerk- ya do know how ta loosen my sails. Thank ya kindly fer tha compliment, I'd be happy ta swap some recipes wit'cha."
A finger rose to wipe a tear from her eye and Relgia allowed herself another burst of chortling. Mabye living on the sea and interacting with scalliwags made Himaya's strangely innocent show that much more jarring.
"Hah, ah, haven't laughed like that in..." Relgia smiled warmly, but stopped herself mid-sentence. It wouldn't do to waste time sailing down old channels. "I'm sorry 'bout stirrin' up some dover cliffs. Ya caught me a bit off guard with yer... enthusiasm for tha grub."

Playfully shoving the laguz's shoulder and holding him at arm's length, Relgia dipped three fingers into the gooey crumble and took a large bite of her dessert, waving a third hand's finger at her new friend.
"Can't be eatin' wiff'a giggly belly. Gonna go down tha wrong tube."
A warm feeling different from the stoked fire in her chest kept an easy smile on her face. Leaving her ship and her mates had been hard, but if there were nice folk like this around she supposed she wouldn't have that much trouble fitting in.

"What, yer sayin' that duster on your butt is more'n just fluff? As fer tha grub, well, I could think'a worse things ta do with my time than feedin' a friend."
That said, Relgia let go of the man's shoulder, giving him easier access to the food and she began licking the rest of the sweet sauce off of her soiled hand.
"I'm fresh outta fruit for this though, so we'll haf'ta make due. Next time I'll be sure to bring more'n just a single portion."

"I can't say nothin' 'bout the quality, but you'll have yer fill. Heck, more'n that- next time dinner's in the offing we could get more folks together, make a right feast o' things. Really bring the group together, ya know?"
Relgia may have let the laguz's praises go to her head but at the moment, it sounded like a fine idea. Everybody sitting together, laughing and eating a fine meal. Heck, maybe they could even throw some decorations around in the trees. What did Florkana eat by the way? She hadn't taken any notice of them at Arbor Aurelius. Maybe she could just get him a present.

The Kano took Himaya's hand in one of her own and gave it a good shake.
"It's Relgia actually, but ya got it close enough. I couldn't really think o' your name either."
Letting go of the man's hand, Relgia took hold of her dish and waved a hand over at an assortment of tents.
"I should probably head out and get my lodgin' looked ta. Dusk's comin' in quicker than I expected and I don't wanna be in tha dark tryin' ta hammer together one o' those. Was nice gettin' ta know ya a bit, Himaya."
