[9:12 AM] Mappy | Best Dog: Interview RP: Seed - @LadyDeme
Saarva reached for his pen, but accidentally knocked over the jar of ink in the process, "Haha, oops," he didn't take it as a very big deal. He reached forward as quickly as he and lifted back up, but there was still an ink stain on the table... and on some of his papers. The dragon moved the papers onto a box behind him, and grabbed some sort of towel, putting it on the ink stain, just trying to cover it up so his clients don't rest their arms or something in it.
After handling the situation, Saarva looked back at his other paperwork, "A Florkana man should be arriving any minute now, it seems."
[9:16 AM] LadyDeme: And arrive any minute now he did! Well, he'd been waiting outside for a minute, wondering exactly how long he should wait. And then there'd be an odd series of noises... So the Florkana in question had waited for them to subside before entering. The tall figure of the tree Florkana poked his leafy head in first, asking,
"This is Mister Saarva's office for the interview, correct?"
The answer was fairly clear on-site, so, having asked it, he crossed over to the table, his eyes landing briefly on the towel. Ah. Well, it'd be rude to comment. And like a wierdo, if he was listening.
[9:18 AM] Mappy | Best Dog: "Yeah, welcome. You must be Seed then, correct? If so, come take a seat across from me and we'll start your interview."
He looked back over to the towel, and the ink had started soaking through. At least his paperwork was mostly alright... It'd be a shame if he lost too many of his notes from a silly spill.
[9:23 AM] LadyDeme: "That's right," Seed said, noting that somewhere in the note-taking process, his preference for only the first of his two names, simple and approachable as he liked it, had been marked. Well, it saved him the time, but in the back of his head, visible perhaps only in the nervous twiddling of his long fingers, he wondered if it didn't look unproffessional.
As he sat, the towel's black stains began to catch his eye, and he turned to his interviewer with a slightly worried smile.
"Hm, Would you happen to need a second towel for that? That one seems somewhat saturated."
[9:26 AM] Mappy | Best Dog: "Ah, if you have one it might be a good idea to cover it up some more... I may have, uh, knocked over that there jar of ink onto the desk. Thankfully a majority of my papers are fine, though it could have gotten very bad if I lost them," responded the dragon.
[9:32 AM] LadyDeme: Seed had brought his pack with him -- he and his impromptu bodyguard had only arrived in the town shortly before the interview. He dug through it briefly.
"Not exactly a towel, but I do have something that should suffice. Ah, here would be just the thing." It seemed to be a small shawl of blanket, better-suited to holding something or a picnic than, say, sleeping under. Just a little something, in case he got cold, of a light fabric. It even had a little green plaid, though marred by the faint reminders of a life on the road -- a hint of a teastain there, an inkstain of his own in a faint darker dot here. Glad to have found it, he passed it over to the dragon.
"I suppose it's rather an odd first note for an interview, isn't it?"
[9:37 AM] Mappy | Best Dog: "It is indeed. Thank you," he accepted the blanket piece and placed it on top of the other towel, allowing the ink to soak through into the second one.
After doing that, the dragon took his pen again and wrote something down on his paper, 'A very generous individual.'
"So, with that out of the way, let's get started with a question. What are some of your abilities, talents, or skills that you think would help us on the investigation? What do you bring to the table that others may not, in other words."
[9:46 AM] LadyDeme: Oh no. The hardest question. How does he answer this without making himself sound arrogant and haughty? How does he do it without making himself sound worthless? He didn't know a balance between the two.
"I have a certain skill with languages, (am functionally bilingual with the )," He explained, switching briefly between tongues, "and with choosing words for effect and impact -- though I'd hardly call them meant for negotiations, they might nontheless have value for record-keeping or missives, and I certainly be willing to try wherever my pretty words may suit. While I consider that my fondest talent, I'm comfortable with a stave, and while I don't practice other magics for a battlefield, am versed in them and a few practical tricks...And..."
He paused, uneasily for a moment. This was always a hard one to really get into. But he had to be honest, and so drew himself up with a breath.
"I've spent, for a Florkana, a considerable time... away from the Arbor Aurelius, and am equally familiar with that fair island as I am with other locales. I...have patrons and contacts, not grand ones mind you, but touch points, in a number of places, including Rettati, which I understand is...Of interest to this investigation."(edited)
[9:48 AM] Mappy | Best Dog: "Do you think your contacts would be able to provide us with information if requested of them?" Saarva expanded the question to see if this mention of contacts would acutally be beneficial to the team. As per usual, he continued his notetaking as the applicant spoke.
[9:53 AM] LadyDeme: A very thoughftul pause. He rather expected the... Very likely daughter-in-law of his Rettati contact to have been involved, were she given the chance. He knew this, but...What if she wasn't? What if she was? Both were frightening prospects, as much as he tried to steer himself towards being more worried of the latter. Eventually, he answered,
"...It would depend on how much they knew -- but I think if I spoke to them earnestly, they could at the very least provide what they were aware of, or supplies or touchpoints within their communities. Commissioned works are a luxury for people who have the standing to afford it, and an interest in being seen."
[10:00 AM] Mappy | Best Dog: "I see... that might be a very useful resource to have," Saarva thought to himself as he recorded the Florkana's answer on his notes, "Having as much intel is very important in an operation such as this, as you can probably imagine.
He flipped the page and prepared room on the page for the next question.
After a moment's pause, he spoke again, "I have one more question for you today. What do you think about the current government and resolutions, regulations, and laws passed by the leaders in Rettati overall? You don't need to be specific, so if you would prefer it be vague, that is fine - just a general idea of your position on the country, as it seems you've been there a few times."
[10:09 AM] LadyDeme: "Well, I can't say..." He needed to pick his words carefully. Both because he didn't like being especially hard on anyone, and because the question demanded an answer. The unhappiness in his thoughts showed on his face clearly enough that the mild next words shown as seriously cold for the poet. "I can approve of the state of affairs there. I, Well, I just feel that they could do more, both in terms of transparency and in care of their people. And constitutionally, they sort of... Remind one of...Well... They wouldn't like to hear it, but a cabal of military strongmen, just with Leaves instead of Swords."
The last bit, he added with a lean-in.
[10:11 AM] Mappy | Best Dog: Hmmm... Doesn't seem very comfortable or confident in answering the question... Saarva noted this below the notes of the actual response itself. After he had finished writing, he gently placed the pen back into the jar, acting as if he was taking care not to knock it over, and stood up, "Well that was the final question I had for you today; thank you for answering them," he put his hand out for a handshake.
[10:14 AM] LadyDeme: "You're welcome," said Seed. Later, he would go over them all again and try to sort out what was meant, but in the meanwhile, he shook the dragon's hand happily. "I hope they were informative."(edited)
[10:15 AM] Mappy | Best Dog: "They certainly were. Thanks again for the towal, by the way," he smiled gently.
"There's a jar near the door - you can take a candy on your way out if you'd like. You'll be notified in a few days' time if you have been chosen."
[10:20 AM] LadyDeme: "Thank you very much." He had wanted to ask for it back, but since it had been called attention to... Maybe later, once the ink situation was under control a little more. Yes, maybe if he was notified, he could ask for it back. It wouldn't be expensive to replace, and giving
Seed turned and headed for the door, stopping when he noticed the jar of candy. For a second he looked them over before taking one regardless.
"Have a nice day," he added as he left.(edited)
[10:21 AM] Mappy | Best Dog: "You as well."
